According to the authors, the expansion of the Russian presence is expected in the Middle East, the Arctic and North Africa. For this, Moscow is already preparing the ground: it is establishing new relations, concluding military contracts and agreements.

According to experts, the Asia-Pacific region today accounts for 60% of the Russian weaponstherefore, this region will remain a priority for the defense industry of the Russian Federation for a long time.

Russia is looking for opportunities to strengthen ties with China, expanding contacts with India, Pakistan and other regional states, the report says.

The authors note that Russia's aggressive policy and attempts to influence the neighboring countries are caused, among other things, by the concerns of Moscow regarding the territorial integrity of the country and even the survival of the Russian nation.

However, the Russian military initiatives will be held back by internal problems, such as a shortage of draftees for military service, since over the next five years the number of young people there will decrease "to less than 25 million people" and this decrease will continue, the document says.

Such a situation, plus the imperfection of Russian health care, can put an end to the Kremlin’s "traditional plans" of having a million-strong army.

In general, Russia in the near future will retain the existing model of governance, experts say.
