The Russian Navy will receive a large landing ship (BDK) of the 11711 "Peter Morgunov" project in 2019, according to a schedule approved by the Ministry of Defense, reports "Interfax" with reference to the press service of the Baltic shipbuilding plant "Yantar" in Kaliningrad.
According to the press service of the enterprise, work on the ship is being carried out without delay according to the Yantar plan, agreed with the Ministry of Defense, the BDK’s mooring trials will begin at the end of this year, and the crew’s crew is scheduled for January next.
BDK "Peter Morgunov" will be the second in a row and the first serial in a series of two ships of project 11711 as part of the Naval fleet. The Russian military department decided to limit itself to just two ships of this series instead of the planned construction of six. The lead ship, Ivan Gren, was built over 20 years due to numerous alterations to the project; Peter Morgunov plans to hand it over to the customer 4 years after laying in 2015.
BDK 11711 is the latest development of Project 1171, according to which in 1960-1970 the Yantar Shipyard built a series of 14 ships. The ship can accommodate 13 tanks or more than 30 armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. The BKD also provides for the deployment of a reinforced battalion of the Marine Corps, as well as the temporary deployment of various types of ship helicopters. The ship has a cruising range of 4 thousand nautical miles, which allows you to perform tasks in the far sea zone.
