Exhibition of trophies from Syria. Security and communications
Last week, in the House of Officers of the Southern Military District, in Rostov-on-Don, there was an exhibition of the Ministry of Defense, designed to show the success of the joint Syrian-Russian operation to combat terrorism. Visitors to the exhibition showed a variety of material samples seized from militants in Syria. Among other trophies there were communication systems and personal protective equipment of various types.
Not wanting to replenish the casualties list too quickly, militants of armed formations in Syria try to use body armor and helmets of the types available. The exhibition, compiled with the assistance of government troops, shows that such products are most often of factory origin and are produced mainly abroad. How exactly and through which channels the imported products reach the Syrian militants is a very interesting question with an obvious answer.
It should be noted that a variety of products of various models fall into the hands of bandit groups. “Artistic diversity” is also noticeable: only helmets of three colors were presented at the exhibition. Protective helmets of light shades caused a certain interest of the public. They even became an occasion for jokes about a well-known “human rights organization”, known for its provocations.
The exhibition was not without communications, although this part of the exhibition was not too voluminous. The reasons for this are clear: radio stations suitable for further operation, like other systems and weapons, remain in the poor Syrian army and are used for their intended purpose. However, in this case, the exhibition showed the specifics of the communication systems and control of militants.
Armed with terrorist organizations there are a variety of means of communication, both military and civilian. Naturally, these are mainly foreign-made products. Some were taken to the militants as trophies, while others were purchased in the civilian market or came from foreign "helpers."
As the events of the last few years show, the looting of army warehouses and the supply of materiel from abroad do not give any guarantees of a strategic nature. Despite all weapon and equipping militants, the Syrian army, with the assistance of Russia, was able to liberate significant territories and many settlements from them. Along the way, the Syrian military collected well-deserved trophies, and some of them have now become exhibits.
