Exhibition of trophies from Syria. Small arms and cold arms
In accordance with the order of the Minister of Defense in a number of cities in Russia, an exhibition of captured models of weapons and equipment seized from terrorist organizations in Syria is held. Last week, such an exhibition visited Rostov-on-Don. In the House of Officers of the Southern Military District numerous trophies of various kinds were shown, including a significant number of captured rifle and cold weapons.
It is no secret that in the middle of the last century, many countries sold or donated outdated weapons and equipment to the countries of the Middle East, including Syria. Significant volumes of such products remained until recently in Syrian warehouses, with which they fell into the hands of bandit groups. In addition, some armed groups of one kind or another operating in Syria receive financial assistance from foreign friends and owners. Naturally, in all these cases, the militants do not get the newest weapon. Finally, some terrorists were engaged in "technical creativity" and tried to independently produce weapons.
The events of the distant and recent past led to the fact that the militants had a great variety of small arms of various classes and types at their disposal. At the same time, gangs are armed with samples produced in different countries. The exhibition of trophies, organized by the Ministry of Defense, clearly showed how the "zoo" uses the enemy.
The exhibition included samples from different countries and even eras. The oldest trophy samples were made at the beginning of the last century, while the new one was barely a few years old. Militants used assault rifles and rifles of various types, as well as hunting rifles. Moreover, among the exhibits there are air rifles used for training. Not without machine guns of several models - both infantry and dismantled with armored vehicles.
It is worth noting a whole set of automatic rifles manufactured in Europe - hardly the entire spectrum of such weapons, produced in the middle of the last century. Noteworthy and ironic at the exhibition of trophies looked rifle FN FAL. The “right hand of the free world” clearly fell into the wrong hands. However, now she has changed owners and belongs to good people.
Armed formations, even those receiving assistance from abroad, cannot always count on timely deliveries of the desired items, and this forces them to manufacture weapons on their own. Among other exhibits of particular interest was the artisanal 23-mm “anti-material” rifle, made from the barrel of a damaged serial automatic gun. The single-shot monster had to be placed next to the mortars. However, on their background, it did not look compact. Also, the homemade category at the exhibition was represented by a hand-held grenade launcher of dubious appearance and an equally specific design.
Handicraft character has the repair of existing samples. Militants had to repair broken weapons with the use of scrap materials. In the course were wooden bars, metal and plastic clamps from the nearest workshop, etc. Repairmen-handicraftsmen did not even pay attention to the adhesive tape.
It is curious that the militants used not only firearms. So, the Ministry of Defense showed a set of blades, previously used in the composition of some cold weapons. Former owners were not too lazy to polish the blades and engrave them with Arabic script. Decorated sabers with other weapons went to government troops and Russian specialists as trophies.
For obvious reasons, a small traveling exhibition can not reveal all the questions of the weapons of militants in Syria, but the presented samples leave a very definite impression. At the disposal of terrorist organizations that do not have access to a full supply of military products, there was a wide range of weapons.
