Bars 2018 joint aviation exercises with Russia begin in Serbia
According to the Ministry of Defense, during the exercise called “Protection of Serbian airspace, search and evacuation of crews in distress”, the joint crews of the two countries will work out various exercises, including: intercepting air targets, air combat, performing difficult and advanced aerobatics, working out tactical strike on ground targets, as well as the tasks of search and rescue support. Crews will participate in MiG-29 airplanes and Mi-8 helicopters from the Air Force and Serbian air defense forces.
Before the start of the exercises, Russian pilots were trained aviation terminology and phraseology of radio communication in the Serbian language. The exercises that began today, October 1, will last 5 days and end on October 5.
The Russian-Serbian Bars exercise (the Brotherhood of Aviators of Russia and Serbia) is annual and takes place alternately in the two countries. In 2017, the exercise took place on the territory of the Lipetsk region also in the month of October.
Bars-2018 draws special attention to itself in connection with the incident in the border area of a hydroelectric station belonging to the Serbian power grid. Recall that the territory adjacent to the hydroelectric power station, recently entered the Kosovo special forces. In connection with the incident, Serbian President Alexander Vucic said that he intended to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
