South Korea offered Australia their BMP Redback
New armored vehicles should replace the outdated M-113AS4 armored personnel carriers in the Australian army.
AS21 "Redback" was developed on the basis of tracked BMP K21, which is in service with the armed forces of South Korea. The model of the new armored vehicle is presented at the international exhibition of the Ground Forces, held in the Australian city of Adelaide.
According to the manufacturer, Redback is an improved version of K21, which provides a higher level of protection against bullets, fragments and explosions in mines. The crew of the car - 3 person (commander, driver, gunner), seats for the landing - 8.
The driver’s seat and the engine are located in the front of the BMP, the double turret is in the middle, the landing compartment is in the aft one.
It can be armed with an 40-mm automatic cannon with a twin 7,62 mm machine gun and a large-caliber machine gun mounted on a turret. It is possible to install an ATGM launcher.
The company also noted that the AS21 BMP will be equipped with a new generation of active protection systems capable of withstanding artillery cumulative projectiles.
What other companies are participating in the tender for the supply of armored vehicles of the Australian army, not reported.
