Mobile groups against UAVs

4
The development of engineering and technology leads to the emergence of new threats on the battlefield and in the rear. In this regard, modern armies have to create and adopt the necessary products, as well as form completely new units. Unmanned aerial vehicles are now becoming one of the most serious threats, and this must be taken into account when developing the army. Based on existing experience, it was decided to create special mobile groups that have to deal with unmanned aviation. Moreover, such units have already managed to show their skills in practice.

Currently, there are several large-scale military exercises in the Southern Military District, in which parts of various combat arms are involved. The servicemen develop skills at all the main ranges of the district and solve problems in the fight against a conditional opponent. Together with other units, special EW mobile groups went to the test site for the first time, who also had to use their equipment and thereby prevent the actions of the conditional adversary.

Mobile electronic warfare groups have been formed quite recently. They were assembled in accordance with the order of Colonel-General Alexander Dvornikov, commander of the Southern Military District. Such units appeared in all units of the district and are intended to protect the troops against enemy unmanned aircraft in all its manifestations. In particular, when creating new mobile groups, the experience gained during the operation in Syria was used.

In the course of the Syrian operation, Russian troops had to face a new threat. Terrorist organizations have repeatedly attempted to attack Russian or Syrian objects using unmanned aerial vehicles. Lightweight UAV is characterized by low cost and ease of use, but it can carry some combat load. The fight against such attacks is a certain complexity for the "traditional" air defense, and therefore in such situations it is necessary to use means of electronic warfare.

A number of attacks in Syria were repelled with the help of electronic warfare. At the same time, it became obvious that any enemy in any area could organize such a strike. In this regard, it was decided to create mobile EW groups, whose task will be to fight enemy drones.

A few days ago, the press service of the Southern Military District announced the participation of mobile units in one of the ongoing exercises. Events with their participation were scheduled for Thursday 30 August. The groups had to go to the area of the Marinovka airfield (Volgograd region) and ensure the protection of the area from a conventional enemy UAV. Together with specialists in electronic warfare, anti-aircraft gunners and signalmen were involved in the exercises.

March 30 press service of the Southern Military District published a message on the successful completion of special exercises. According to their legend, the enemy’s target was the Marinovka airfield. For attacking this object, a conditional opponent used several UAVs of various types. Flights were carried out at different heights and courses.

It is reported that the EW mobile groups were able to detect flying machines in time and determine their location. We dealt with conditional threats in several ways, including with the help of weapons. With the help of the P-934BMV and P-330Z Resident complexes, the EW units identified, intercepted, and suppressed UAV data transmission channels. Due to the suppression of communication, the conditional enemy lost the ability to gather intelligence information and effectively use drones.

Data on the objects found were transferred from EW complexes to anti-aircraft systems. The Tor-М2 and Pantsir-С1 complexes received target designation from EW systems, after which they carried out all the necessary procedures and made a conditional launch of missiles at targets. The enemy's UAVs were conditionally destroyed at distances up to 10 km. Another goal, flying at an altitude of 150 m, was hit by small arms fire from the ground.

One of the objectives of the exercise was to work out the interaction of units. Mobile EW groups not only searched for unmanned vehicles and prevented their effective operation, but also transferred target designation data to other units. First of all, information about the objectives received protection and security units at command and control points. Also issued data to anti-aircraft gunners for fire destruction of targets.

In the course of the exercise, the EW mobile units managed to protect the Marinovka airfield from a UAV raid of a conditional enemy. With the help of their own equipment, they prevented the effective operation of the devices, and the adjacent units ensured a conditional defeat of air targets. The conditional opponent could not break through to his goal and cause damage to it.

In parallel, other training events are being held at other ranges of the Southern Military District, including with the participation of electronic warfare units. Personnel work on the skills of detecting and suppressing enemy communication channels, collecting and processing intelligence information, etc. In the course of the current exercises, almost all of the EW complexes used by the units of the Southern Military District are used.

According to the press service of the Southern Military District, in the course of recent exercises, the EW mobile group used the R-934BMV and R-330J complexes for solving combat training tasks. It is quite possible that at the disposal of new divisions there is also other equipment of a similar purpose. With its help, the mobile group can find enemy communication channels and collect information or suppress them using interference.

According to known data, the P-934BMV product mentioned in official messages is a jamming station from the EBC RB-301B BorisGolebsk-2 complex. Complexes of the Borisoglebsk family initially represented a deep modernization of the older P-330 Mandate systems. Due to the most serious processing of the design and use of new equipment, it was possible to significantly improve the basic characteristics and expand the capabilities of the equipment.

The RB-301B complex was developed from the mid 2000s and was put into service in the 2013 year. The complex includes a control point and several interference stations, including the already mentioned P-934BMV. All components of the complex are built on the basis of a unified armored chassis MT-LBu, which ensures high maneuverability and mobility. The complex “Borisoglebsk-2” has been serially produced for several years and is being supplied to parts of the ground forces.

It is known that the electronic reconnaissance equipment of the RB-301B complex is capable of detecting various radio communication channels of the enemy and other signals. There is a function to determine the location of the source of signals. The presence of several stations of interference at once provides the possibility of highly effective suppression of a wide frequency range. As the last teachings showed, Borisoglebsk-2 tools are able to detect and suppress the control lines of unmanned aerial vehicles.

The automated jamming station P-330ZH "Resident", also used in the "defense" of the airfield in the Volgograd region, is one of the components of the P-330X1P Diabazol complex. The latter is another version of the modernization of the relatively old "Mandate" with the use of modern equipment. The development of the P-330M1P has been carried out over the past decade; The complex entered service in 2008 year.

Complex "Diabazol" in its architecture is similar to "Borisoglebsk-2". It includes a command post and a set of automated jamming stations, one of which is the P-330J. Unlike a number of complexes of the Mandat family, the P-330М1П is built on the basis of automobile chassis with unified body-wagons. According to its capabilities, Diabazol is similar to other modern complexes of its class, but differs in other technical characteristics. In particular, it differs from the “Borisoglebsk-2” or other systems by the operating range.

The use of electronic warfare systems RB-301B and P-330М1П allows mobile countermeasures of the UAV or other units to detect radio signals from sources at distances up to several tens of kilometers. Suppression of communication channels of ground equipment is carried out at distances 20-25 km. With the suppression of the communication of aircraft, the range is doubled.

The arsenal of new mobile electronic warfare units consists of complexes built on the basis of serial chassis. This allows you to quickly transfer groups to a given area to cover the necessary objects. In addition, this design does not impose special requirements on the positions for the deployment of technology. The preparation of the Diabazol and Borisoglebsk-2 complexes requires no more than 30-40 minutes to work. Minimizing and transferring funds to the hiking position also takes minimal time.

Complex mobility provides obvious advantages. In addition, it allows you to more effectively solve new problems. Self-propelled equipment of mobile groups can in the minimum time advance to the specified object and ensure its protection against scouts or drone drones in a timely manner.

EW complexes transferred to new mobile groups were initially created as a universal means of influencing the radio communication and control channels of the enemy. In the composition of the new units, their role varies slightly. Now they first of all should search and suppress data lines connecting UAVs and operator consoles. As follows from the available information and the results of recent exercises, modern domestic EW systems do an excellent job with such tasks. In addition, such systems can issue information to higher commanders or anti-aircraft gunners.

The wide distribution of unmanned aerial vehicles of all classes, which are now available not only to the armies, but also small armed formations, leads to the emergence of new challenges and threats. It is important that the means to protect against such threats already exist and are in service. Due to this, the Russian army gets the opportunity to organize the protection of objects from UAVs relatively quickly and easily. It is enough to form new specialized units and equip them with the required equipment.

It is possible to increase defense capability not only with the help of new weapons and equipment, but also at the expense of the correct organizational structure of the troops. Recently appeared mobile UAV countering groups are called upon to solve a new actual problem directly connected with the progress of recent years. In addition, these units have already managed to show their capabilities in the conditions of the landfill.

I hope these systems will be massive and will not fail at the right time.
Probably very many already understand the likelihood of a war against Russia.

It’s interesting why they don’t adopt the tactics of using small UAVs against the same gangs? To organize a unit for a couple of hundred UAVs and carry out destruction operations with their help .. To equip a payload in the form of F-1 and forward, a group of 3-5 people was identified or even one flew up, they killed someone who was already well injured, the group was not only identified and reduced combat effectiveness .. As practice shows, shooting down UAVs is very difficult, and the enemy’s electronic warfare is not observed .. The cost of such tactics (especially when combined with the classic one) will be lower than with the purely classical version of detecting and destroying the enemy.
