SCO demonstrates muscles at Peace Mission-2018 exercises in the Urals
Today, on the proving ground in Chebarkul, in the Chelyabinsk region, an eight-day anti-terrorism command and staff military exercise will start. The armed forces of the countries that are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (hereinafter SCO) "Peace Mission - 2018" take part in them. This was announced by Lieutenant General Alexander Lapin, commander of the troops of the Central Military District.
It is also reported that the number of servicemen of the SCO member states who will take part in the exercise will be about 3 thousand, and more than 500 units of both land and aircraft will be involved.
About 1300 military and more than 330 units of military equipment and weapons, including 37 units, will represent Russia in military exercises aviation.
The composition of the armed forces of the SCO member countries is already in the Chelyabinsk region. On August 24, the grand opening of the command and staff exercises will take place, and on August 29, large-scale military maneuvers will take place on the territory of the Ural tank compound located in the Chelyabinsk region.
Recall that the first joint anti-terrorism military exercises “Peaceful Mission”, in which all SCO members took part, were held on the territory of Kazakhstan and China in 2003 year. Since then, the number of SCO members has grown.
