Russia will build an expedition ship that combines the functions of a helicopter carrier and a landing ship. This was announced by the President of the United Shipbuilding Corporation Alexei Rakhmanov in the framework of the international forum "Army-2018", RIA reports News.

According to the head of the USC, the corporation will build in the interests of the Naval fleet Russian expeditionary ship, which combines the functions of a landing ship and a helicopter carrier. In other words, it will be a universal ship, designed to perform various tasks, for example, for use as a floating hospital.

Rakhmanov explained that in order to build an aircraft carrier or a helicopter carrier, the Ministry of Defense should clearly understand what kind of ships he needs and finally decide on their concept. He added that Russia is a geopolitical power, which has interests in various points of our world, and it needs landing, expeditionary ships. Currently, the Ministry of Defense and the defense industry of the country need to make the right decision regarding the size of the aircraft carrier, the timing of its construction, the wing that it will carry.
