"Shushpantsery" of Ukraine. Part of 1.
Of course, one of the most weighty arguments in favor of frantic automobile booking was the poor state of the fleet of armored vehicles of the Ukrainian army and the terrible losses on the battlefield. Even without taking into account such panicked statements, clearly designed to help Western partners, the proportion of the destroyed equipment does not seem to be scanty. Coupled with the massive use of cannon and mortar artillery, as well as the constant danger of being ambushed, "shushpantserizatsiya" automotive technology looks pretty important.
Question in the effectiveness of such a reservation. Most of the equipment is reinforced by ordinary sheet steel, which has not undergone even the hardening procedure. Along with some absurdity of Ukrainian home-made designs, there is an armor-made action of bullets and shrapnel. Penetrating through an improvised steel defense, the bullet often breaks down into many fragments, creates a fragmentation field of fragments of the skin, and also changes the direction of motion and begins to tumble in flight. All this can increase the destructive effect of ammunition on manpower. However, it can be assumed that the bullets at the end, as well as small pieces of artillery shells cannot penetrate the barrier. Protection against the high-explosive action of projectiles is quite controversial, since the “shushpantser” cases are not hermetic - the shock wave flows freely into the gaping slits of the case. A common feature of all homemade is the complete lack of protection from mines and improvised explosive devices. Neither the change of the bottom shape, nor the installation of the simplest explosion-proof seats is provided for.
Most of the self-made armored vehicles, of course, used by numerous volunteer battalions and the National Guard. APU will apply them in part. Although the Ukrainian army met hostilities in the south-east of the country in a paradoxical situation - armored vehicles in a lot of warehouses (only in the conservation of more than 4 thousands of armored personnel carriers, BMD, BMP and BRDM), but most are not equipped with even engines. The battalion "Azov" used such an armored KAMAZ. In general, the products of the plant from Naberezhnye Chelny are popular with artisanal armored vehicles. Obviously, the whole thing is in a bonnet-like layout that simplifies the welding of the hood. Products of the Ukrainian KrAZ vehicles, as is known, are predominantly bonnet.

Deep armored KAMAZ, equipped with bulletproof glass in one of the variants! This is almost the only example of installing such a cabin protection. But the photo is not visible, whether the windshield is armored on one of the variants of the car, but the chain-link net, with which the cabin is entangled, is more likely to provide psychological protection. Even if it causes a premature detonation of an anti-tank grenade or VOG, the damage will still be fatal.
It opens the line of foreign equipment pickup, obviously, based on the Dodge Ram mid 90-x, which was booked in the frontal projection and sent to fight in the Shakhtar battalion. The inscription on board is life-affirming - "He who is not with us is against us."

Another "foreigner" Nissan Patrol intelligence 25-th separate airmobile brigade of Ukraine. The car is overloaded, as can be seen from the sagging rear suspension and tires. Armed with a Nissan automatic grenade launcher.

German VW Transporter 90-s with steel-enclosed muzzle.
Perhaps, one of the most sophisticated self-made armored vehicles of Ukraine is the “Hardworking” on the all-wheel drive chassis of the KAMAZ-4310 series. However, even in this embodiment, the roof was not reserved (obviously, to reduce weight), and the welders could not afford to refuse to install anti-cumulating grids on the face.
The KAMAZ, quite wild in appearance, allows, however, to tilt the cabin under attack and repair the engine.
Bright samples of factory modifications. ZIL-131 with corner armor, created at one of the repair companies in Ukraine. The hinged construction is welded neatly and carefully painted. The factory workers took care of serious booking of the cabin and the protection of the fuel tank.
