Aviation US Marine Corps will be upgraded. Northrop Corporation Grumman announced the successful test use of the APG-83 Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) on the F / A-18C Hornet, Warspot reports citing the company's press service.

According to the Marine Corps Command, it is planned to modernize a hundred F / A-18C / D Hornet airplanes used by US marines. During the upgrade, the base radar will be replaced with a radar with an active phased-array antenna (AFAR). The Northrop Grumman Corporation noted that the first of the modernized Hornets, which received radar with AFAR, fully complies with the requirements of the US Marine Corps.
At present, all American fifth-generation airplanes are equipped with new AFAR radars. In addition, the US Air Force ordered the installation of new radars with AFAR on F-16 Fighting Falcon airplanes.
The F / A-18A / B carrier-based fighter was developed in the 70-s of the 20 century and in the course of its operation repeatedly passed through the stages of modernization, eventually reaching version F / A-18C / D, F / A-18E / F.
