About the legendary weapons always make up legends. Around him there are many different rumors and tales. A vivid example of this is the Kalashnikov assault rifle, the most famous automatic rifle in the world, the pride of the Soviet defense industry. One legend says that an AK cartridge pierces a railway rail through and through. Is it so?
First, a few comments.
The statement itself about breaking a rail by any AK is fundamentally wrong. Initially, it was about the AKM, whose cartridge has a caliber 7,62x39 mm. Later modifications of the machine used already 5,45х39 mm.
AKM punched not the sole, and even more so not the rail head, but its neck, that is, its thinnest part. Moreover, in the USSR, rails were made with a neck thickness in 12 mm, in modern Russia it has been increased to 18 mm.
And finally: the neck of the rail was pierced only with an armor-piercing cartridge. The ordinary one left practically no trace on it.
Channel WarGonzo decided to test several samples of small arms for the possibility of breaking through a standard railway rail.
