During the first stage of modernization, protective grills for the engine compartment and the rear of the turret will be installed on the Leclerc tanks, as well as modular hanging booking. In addition, the tanks will completely update the electronics in order to fully interact on the battlefield with new combat vehicles.
We remind you that back in 2014, the French Ministry of Defense announced the launch of the Scorpion program. As part of this program, the French Defense Ministry planned a deep modernization of the Leclerc tank, as well as the creation of three combat vehicles in the interests of the French army: the Griffon multipurpose armored vehicle, the Jaguar combat reconnaissance armored vehicle and the VBMR-L light armored vehicle.
The AMX-56 Leclerc is the main French tank created in the 80s of the last century to replace the outdated AMX-30. The tank entered the series in the 1992 year, for the 15 years the 794 units "Leclerc" were created. To date, the production of AMX-56 discontinued. 406 units are in service with the French army, 388 units are in service with the UAE. One of the most expensive modern tanks in the world, the approximate cost of one car per 2012 a year is 6 million euros. The French 120-mm bore gun CN 120-26 with a barrel length 52 caliber is used as the main armament. Ammunition is interchangeable with other NATO smoothbore guns.
