In Moscow, on the street. Polikarpov today in a solemn ceremony on the eve of the Day of the Airborne Forces, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu opened a monument to Commander of the Airborne Forces Hero of the Soviet Union Army General Vasily Margelov, RIA reports News.

In Moscow, opened a monument to the founder of the Airborne Forces General of the Army Vasily Margelov

Speaking to the audience, the Russian Defense Minister said:

Opening the monument to General of the Army Margelov Vasily Filippovich, we pay tribute of deep respect to the Hero of the Soviet Union, the legendary commander of the Airborne Forces, a true patriot and a wonderful person

In his speech, Shoigu noted that Army General Margelov personifies a whole era in the formation and development of the Airborne Forces. And it was Margelov who not only retained the “winged guard” as an independent branch of troops, but also made these troops unique, adding that the commander’s iron will allowed the invincible spirit of the “blue berets” to be formed, turning them into a mobile and formidable striking force.

Among the guests invited to the opening of the monument were the son of Margelov, veteran of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Colonel-General Vitaly Margelov, Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Vladimir Shamanov, Chairman of the Union of Russian Paratroopers Valery Vostrotin and other dignitaries.

The monument is a bronze sculpture of Margelov on a granite pedestal. The legendary commander of the Airborne Forces is depicted walking to his full height with his overcoat thrown over his shoulders. The author of the monument is a sculptor of the Studio of Military Artists. Grekova Chebanenko Alexey Dmitrievich.

Earlier, on July 31, a commemorative bust of the Hero of the Soviet Union, the founder of the airborne troops, General of the Army Vasily Margelov was installed on the street of the Ostrovsky town of Kineshma, Ivanovo region.

Smoked, - And what does VF Margelov have to do with it, then take an interest in enemy landing operations, for example, the most ambitious in Crete ... Of course, landing for very specific missions, and when used in mass combined arms, the Airborne Forces lose their advantages and get additional non-specific tasks that are not applicable by any means of ini tactics. (how to scoop a barrel with a spoon, it should be buckets). About the monument, why the outstanding heroes have such disgusting monuments, there is not that spirit and pressure of the commander, some kind of peasant is depicted ...

So all of Margelov’s work, his main merit is precisely in the fact that he rebuilt the airborne forces so that Vyazma would not be repeated. Modern mat. part and methods of training paratroopers - this is his merit. You gave an extremely unsuccessful example to prove a strange thesis ...

          which are unsuccessful?

No offense to the paratroopers. You did not even have tactical tasks, but only sabotage tasks. If from heaven to battle - this is just a weak infantry. And not only with us. And now, in general, I can hardly imagine how to ensure the IL-76’s flight, at least for operational landing, across the front line. First you need to win the war, it turns out.
The losses incurred by the German paratroopers in Crete were so heavy that Hitler forbade henceforth to conduct large-scale landings. In one of his conversations with Kurt Student, the creator of the German Airborne Forces, Hitler said: "Crete showed that the days of paratroopers are over." As a result, the elite troops were out of work and, until the end of the war, fought as selective infantry.

During the entire war, the Soviet command used more than 40 airborne assault forces of mainly tactical significance. Of operational significance were: airborne forces as part of the 4th airborne corps in the Vyazma region in the winter of 1942 and the ejection of the 3rd and 5th airborne brigades in the Kanev region during the crossing of the Dnieper in September - October 1943. And both of these operations ended with heavy losses, the landing objectives were not achieved. Soviet marshal Voronov, recalling the war, wrote in his memoirs: "With great regret, we must say that we, the pioneers of the airborne assault, did not have reasonable plans for its use." Vyazemskaya and other operations showed that only small subversive units have a chance of success when landing in the rear of the enemy. The larger the landing, the more difficult it is for him to solve operational-tactical tasks. Probably in connection with these failures in the summer of 1942 10 airborne corps were converted into guards rifle divisions.

Cooking, as selective infantry, is possible. But why bother as a separate branch of the army with its command?

In a modern (with a strong opponent) war, this is a weak likeness of motorized infantry, and this is unambiguous.

But at the beginning of the conflict (when there is fear of the first shot, and as a rule for third countries), the airborne forces can have strategic significance - who first occupied the clearing, that and a picnic.
And this will happen much more often than a big war.

Well, and turn parts of the Airborne Forces (if necessary) into "heavy"infantry is not difficult. But tradition.

I will note the tactical landing during the battle for Moscow in 41, when our counter-offensive went. If memory serves, the landing party nightmares Germans retreating to Volokolamsk. The perpetrators felt in the role of those same legendary ball-skiers of Napoleon.

The Marines were there from the Pacific Ocean, in the same operation. The Germans had one way out of the possible environment, along the Volokolamsk highway. As planned by the operation, this exit should not have been, but they did not squeeze it out somewhere. I had to throw a battalion of airborne forces to the rear. Musci tried. In the head there was no last name of the commander of the paratroopers. I only remember that he was given the major for this operation. We'll have to google it)))

For me, a fired soldier with red shoulder straps is much cooler as a fighter of a dozen paratroopers who served for a year. And attached to our OVE was the usual MSD. And they landed simple motorized infantry in a landing way. Here they got all the dirt of the war. Everything except glory and PR. And the preparation "many times higher than the infantry" - with what fright? And the losses are the same if the experience is the same.

Come on? It was the paratroopers who kept all NATO in fear at the Warsaw Pact. It was the Soviet landing that could capture NATO airfields and command posts in Europe, hold them for a day, and at the end of the day all NATO countries should already be under the tracks of Soviet tanks. NATO doesn’t have such operational ability, it didn’t, and it’s not now. According to the notorious 5th paragraph, each country will decide for itself whether to harness it to the world Mahach or wait, then it needs to be agreed with the parliament and so on and on until the decision is made and someone moves forward a week passes. The United States will only be able to respond with its nuclear arsenal; there will not be enough ground forces in Europe. So it's you in vain. The airborne forces were precisely the "forces of rapid deployment." So the monument to Uncle Vasya is necessary and relevant, in comparison with the monuments to all tsars and princes and other medieval times.

Really, could? Even the oncoming battle of paratroopers with motorized rifles with their tanks, artillery and army aircraft? But what if they run into motorized riflemen on the defensive? Will you count 1 to 5? Women give birth. Or in Nato do not guard facilities and do not hold reserves? Are you going to fight with someone, with farmers?
So argue, so Paulus' army surrounded is the largest "landing" in history behind enemy lines. What does the encirclement of the armies or at least the divisions end with, don’t you remember? This is not a partisan detachment, they themselves will not feed and cartridges will not be obtained.

Do you think that paratroopers should be earlier than operational-tactical missiles or after all somehow after being hit by missiles and aircraft? Well, as for the “oncoming battles with motorized rifles,” Duc, these motorized rifles still need to gather somewhere, moreover, knowing for sure the landing site. The West 81 exercises clearly demonstrated exactly how the "abduction of Europe" will be carried out and made a huge impression on foreign observers.

monument to the founder of the Airborne Forces Army General Vasily Margelov

    Funny.
Kapitokhin Alexander Georgievich Commander of the Airborne Troops (June 1943 - August 1944)

Zatevakhin Ivan Ivanovich Commander of the Airborne Troops (1944-1946)
    Lieutenant general

Glagolev Vasily Vasilievich Commander of the Airborne Troops (1946-1947)
    Colonel-General

Kazankin Alexander Fedorovich Commander of the Airborne Forces (October 1947 - December 1948 and January - March 1950) Lieutenant General

Rudenko Sergey Ignatievich Commander of the Airborne Troops (1948-1949)
    USSR Aviation Marshal

And Margelov is "the commander of the Airborne Forces in 1954-1959 and 1961-1979." This is how all the previously listed could command the military branch, which was founded years after it? actually, the Airborne Forces were founded back in the late 1920s.
