Another drone, launched by militants in the direction of the Khmeimim airbase in Syria, was destroyed upon arrival, said Major General Alexei Tsygankov, head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties.
Speaking at the briefing, he reported that on July 29, a UAV was launched in the dark, running from the territory controlled by the illegal armed groups. The air target was destroyed at a safe distance from the airbase, said Tsygankov, while stating that there were no casualties or material damage, the base was functioning normally.
It should be recalled that earlier the Russian air defense of the Khmeimim airbase had already intercepted several dronesdirected towards the air base from territories controlled by terrorist groups. The last attempt to attack the airbase using a drone occurred on July 27, when a UAV was shot down, launched from the territory of the north of the province of Latakia, where the formations of the so-called "Free Syrian Army" controlled by the American coalition are located.
Prior to this, during July, two UAVs that had attempted to attack the territory of the air base were intercepted by Khmeimim air defense weapons. In all cases no damage was caused; the UAVs were intercepted at a considerable distance from the air base.
