Polish media talked about the problems with the new Piorun MANPADS

The Polish company Mesko SA (part of the PGZ association) cannot supply the Polish Defense Ministry with the first batch of Piorun 150 MANPADS, due to the failures that were testing the complexes in April and June, the newspaper writes Republic.

Polish media talked about the problems with the new Piorun MANPADS

The company has already owed the military department more than 20 million zlotys as a penalty for disrupting contractual terms.

The supply contract for 420 launchers and Piorun 1300 missile launchers was concluded at the end of 2016. Initially it was assumed that the new MANPADS would be better than the American "Stinger" because of the use of "unique technical solutions" by Polish designers.

However, an inspection carried out at the enterprise concluded that the products of Mesko’s enterprise “represent a danger to the life and health of both workers and military personnel”.

The report says that during the military tests at launch a rocket engine chamber exploded, and only by luck, the missile’s warhead did not detonate. In connection with this incident, the entire party was recalled.

The inspectors measured the thickness of the engine chamber walls and found out that “the walls of twelve engines from 81 (that is, 15%) turned out to be thinner walls.

Commission members also found that the factory controllers lacked adequate measuring equipment. All measurements are made, as they say, "on the knee."

Subsequent factory tests (in April and June of the current year) also failed. The problems are the same - the explosions of the engine chambers. All defects are due to manufacturing defects. But not only. According to the report, Mesko technologists have not been able to create “an efficient production technology for the Piorun rocket engine chamber and fuel for it for over 3 years.”

According to the newspaper, employees of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau began work at the enterprise. It is assumed that in the manufacture of products could be used previously discarded components.

So under the Union they were given technology to them, and even through Egypt they came to Mujahideen in Afghanistan.

And also the production of Mi-2.

What does it mean to take measurements on the knee? belay
Equipment such as a combustion chamber of a jet engine, in any case, must be done on a CNC machine. The machine does, it controls the same quality. A smaller wall thickness is simply not possible.
And by any means, the safety margin should be with a large margin, not a cart. But Western experts, apparently, believe that the stock should be "head to head".
I recall a case about 20 years ago. In the USA, the bridge, along with the bulls, was demolished by flood. And one bull in the middle survived, which saved 90% of the cost of restoring the bridge. The commission began to understand, found out - the flood was higher than any forecasts, the engineers who created the bridge did not expect such a thing. But the central support was created by the Russian emigrant, with "excess safety margins exceeding the required 2 times." The engineer was fired "for cost overruns."

“And by any means, there should be a margin of safety with a large margin, they don’t make a cart. But Western experts, apparently, believe that the stock should be“ top to bottom ”. at the top. " It’s just interesting ... how do Polish diameters differ from global ones ... what do they measure on the knee and, in fact, where did the measurer for the MANPADS GROM delivered by Russia go? Explicit jamb in the design and technological documentation.

The fact of the matter is that there just the stock is not needed, the thickness is at the limit. When the warhead is detonated, the detonator in the engine’s check also detonates, detonating the remaining fuel, to enhance the high-explosive action and form additional. fragments from the same camera. The same detonator provides self-destruction when the checker burns out. That’s such a task, undermining can be by 2 km, and by 5, the rest of the fuel, you know, is different, but you need the camera to burst. Ours and their time, with Stinger in their arms, suffered for a long time with this.

          Undermining fuel residues is understandable.
Well, what does the combustion chamber have to do with it? When undermining warheads, it (or its fragments) flies BACK for any. Since it is located exactly behind the rest of the rocket, it does not affect the target’s damage factor in any way.

It’s solid fuel, a checker embedded in the combustion chamber pipe, more than half the length of the rocket, it’s not a liquid engine, where the chamber is below and fuel components are fed into it. It’s just a nozzle, the burning center shifts as it develops to the nose. And warheads have about a kilo of the entire rocket, the weight of ten kg. At a short range, the remaining fuel will be several times more warheads

What a familiar rocket - even on a student bench :))
Nothing Polish - the modernization of Soviet developments.
Even in a rocket, the same pattern.

Well, you took up arms against the Poles. Well, they know how to cut loot no worse than Ukrainians. But what did not work out to develop something new? The needle is riveted. Yes, an old one, but it did not stop being dangerous from this. So here - now they’ll cut the budget and fulfill the point:
"According to the newspaper, employees of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau began working at the enterprise." They will throw more money - maybe that will burn out ... But no, so the main thing is that the funds have been spent.
