The Turkish government commented on the decision of the US Congress to terminate Turkey’s participation in the fifth-generation F-35 fighter program. Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on this occasion that Ankara will find an alternative to the American fighter, the Turkish television channel NTV reports.
In his statement, Yıldırım noted that the refusal of Turkey’s participation in the production program and the subsequent use of the fifth-generation American fighter F-35 is certainly an unfortunate development of the situation, is regrettable and contrary to the spirit of strategic partnership. But at the same time, Ankara will not remain without an alternative to this fighter.
At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt авavuşoлуlu, answering journalists ’questions regarding the refusal of the US Congress to acquire the fifth generation F-35 aircraft, allegedly due to the C-400 deal with Russia, said that the issue was completely closed and Turkey case will acquire anti-aircraft missile systems C-400.
It should be noted that at present Turkey, in the framework of the production and subsequent operation of the 5 generation fighter, the F-35 has transferred to the USA about 800 million dollars. In addition, from the very beginning, Turkey was one of the nine main participants in the F35 development program. In accordance with the contract, Ankara should get the 120 latest fighter-bombers. Turkey also produces one of the most important parts of the F35 design and has committed itself to the maintenance and installation of the F-35 engines.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara will not abandon the deal with Russia on the acquisition of C-400 air defense systems, even under the threat of imposing sanctions.
