Saber Strike showed: Balts continue to breed for money
Recall the NATO international exercises under the leadership of the European Command of the US Ground Forces launched in Latvia 3 June. Military personnel from 19 countries take part in them. As always, the purpose of the maneuvers is to improve the mutual understanding of American troops with allies and increase their overall readiness to respond to crisis situations.
Fortunately or unfortunately, nothing fundamentally new at the end of the exercise could not be seen. Although the Americans, together with their Baltic fans, did their best to convince Russia of the opposite.
On the eve of the maneuvers on the website of the US Army Command in Europe, a leaflet appeared with the main stages of the maneuvers. One of the most important points was the transfer of the 2 Cavalry Regiment from Germany to Latvia through the Czech Republic, Poland and Lithuania. Despite the assurances of the Americans, no event with a capital letter in this. Previously, the regiment or its units have repeatedly committed long road marches to Poland and the Baltic states (operations Dragon ride и Dragon Ride II).
Another “know-how” of the exercise was the arrival of the American F-10 Fighting Falcon fighter at the Estonian air base Emari 16. Lt. Col. US Air Force Lt. Col. Spencer Burkhalter, a staff member at the US Embassy in Tallinn, said that the arrival of these aircraft on Amari is testing the capabilities of the airbase, which have recently been strengthened by the investments of the United States and Estonia in the facility’s infrastructure.
But the events with a capital letter again failed. Those who are interested in the behavior of American troops in Europe know that in the framework of the “Package of measures to strengthen security in the theater security package” 10 of American planes with enviable consistency appear on Amari. Now, if, within the framework of Saber Strike, the airbase could have taken at least 20 American fighters, it would have been something to brag about, but not. They are also ten.
Moreover, behind the loud headlines about the large-scale international Saber Strike exercises in the Baltics is the fact that all their “internationalism” is no more than three thousand foreign soldiers in each country and not at the same time (without taking into account the rotational forces of the United States and NATO in Latvia , Lithuania and Estonia). The Baltic infrastructure still cannot accept a larger number of partners.
As a result, the sensational (in the Western press) Saber Strike teachings showed not NATO’s readiness to respond to crisis situations, but the need for the people of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to think about where the money goes to defense, if the military gives out the progress achieved for the progress ...?
