For a long time, the Baltic States and Ukraine performed important transit functions for Russia. Through the territories of these states, trains with Russian goods went to the European Union. Revenues from transit formed up to 15% of the Baltic countries' GDP, that is, they were a strategically important source. However, it was the Balts themselves who did everything possible to break these ties.
Continuous anti-Russian rhetoric, up to direct insults, deployment of NATO forces, attempts to rewrite historical events, scandals with the demolition of monuments and much more. All this led to the fact that our country began to build its new transshipment facilities, as well as to upgrade existing ones.
As a result, over the past decade, the turnover of Russian ports has doubled, and the Baltic profits from Russian transit have halved. In the 10 months of last year alone, the turnover of the port of Tallinn decreased by more than 9%, and that of the Riga port by more than 7%.
