Modernization of the airborne troops: new intentions
March 12 official publication of the Ministry of Defense "Red Star" published material "Winged Guard increases its combat potential" by Alexander Tikhonov. The author of this publication talked with the commander of the airborne troops, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov. In his interview, the commander recalled the well-known facts, and also cited a number of new data on the modernization of the Airborne Forces. The new interview differed from other recent posts on this topic with thoroughness and detail.
One of the main goals of the current renewal of troops is to increase their numbers while simultaneously increasing their combat capability. According to A. Serdyukov, from 2012, the number of personnel of the airborne troops increased by 48%. More than 30, thousands of privates and sergeants are currently serving under contract. Contractors currently make up more than 70% of the total personnel of the Airborne Forces. In 2020, the share of contract servicemen will be increased to 80%.
In this case, the sergeant staff is already fully staffed with contractors. Also contract servicemen go to the positions of specialists in the operation of various weapons and equipment. First of all, they enter the service in battalion tactical groups. As noted by the Commander of the Airborne Forces, the number of such groups is constantly increasing.
To date, the structure of the Airborne Forces has undergone certain changes. Now the troops have four divisions, five separate brigades, as well as support units and educational institutions. The processing of the structure of the troops and the improvement of the control system lead to an increase in their combat capabilities.
The topic of supplying new material, in the first place, weapons and military equipment was touched upon. General Serdyukov said that deliveries under the State Defense Order from 2012 to 2017 have increased the share of the new weapons and equipment in the Airborne in 3,5 times. The number of modern armored vehicles increased by 2,4 times, anti-aircraft weapons - by 3,5 times. The share of modern means of landing all types has increased in 1,4 times.
More than 42 pieces of weapons and equipment have already been received by the airborne troops under the latest programs. Due to this, the maneuverability of the troops increased by 30%, the level of survivability - by 20%. The increase in firepower capabilities is estimated at 16%. It is curious that in some areas there are simply outstanding successes. The direction of unmanned aerial vehicles is developing most actively. Since 2012, seven units equipped with such equipment have appeared in the Airborne Forces. Supply drones increased the capabilities of troops in aerial reconnaissance by 12 times.
A. Serdyukov revealed some details of the deliveries of military equipment and weapons that took place in recent years. Thus, the industry handed over five battalion sets of BMD-4M airborne combat vehicles and BTR-MDM armored personnel carriers to the troops. Seven artillery battalions are equipped with modernized self-propelled 2С9-1М self-propelled guns, as well as the newest reconnaissance and control points 1В119-1. The artillery units received the Sobolyatnik and Aistenok radar reconnaissance stations, due to which the divisions are integrated into the automated airborne command and control system. The main consequence of this is to reduce the time required to detect and hit targets.
The state defense order for the current 2018 year again provides for the purchase of new and repair of existing models of weapons and equipment. According to the Commander of the Airborne Forces, this year the troops will receive two battalion sets of BMD-4M and BTR-MDM vehicles. Artillery will transfer two battalions of self-propelled guns 2С9-1М. Air defense units will begin operating the MP-D and MRU-D reconnaissance and control systems. Radiation, chemical and biological protection will receive three regimental sets of reconnaissance chemical machines РХМ-5М.
Special attention is paid to modern means of control, namely the creation of a unified automated system that controls the work of the troops. Most of the combat units of the airborne troops are fully equipped with a modern Andromeda-D automated control system. Immediate response units are already fully transferred to such equipment. All this greatly enhances the capabilities of the troops by drastically reducing the time needed to bring the units on alert.
The result of 2018 supply of the year will be another increase in the share of modern material. According to current plans, according to the results of the nearest purchases under the new state defense order, this parameter will grow to 63,4%. The ultimate goal of the current State Armaments Program, the implementation of which will be completed in 2020, is to bring the share of new weapons and equipment to 75%.
The new material part does not stand idle and is constantly used in various combat training activities. Combat training units became a priority. According to A. Serdyukov, over the past five years, the number of training events has increased by 74%. Now annually 200 is performed by the fighters, thou. Thousand skydiving in different weather conditions, day and night. The number of parachute assault vehicles and equipment for the specified period has doubled.
Airborne troops regularly participate in surprise checks of combat readiness announced by the commander-in-chief. During these events, the Airborne Forces repeatedly demonstrated a high level of training and readiness to perform their tasks.
The commander of the Airborne Forces recalled the main goals and objectives of the current modernization of the troops. He noted that this type of troops in the future will play an important role in the country's military security system. The airborne troops will have to tackle new tasks, markedly different from those set for them just 10-15 years ago. These troops will now develop as the basis of the rapid reaction force.
The plans of the military department for the next few years envisage the direction of the main efforts to upgrade the material part and increase the level of training. By 2021, the share of modern weapons and equipment should reach 70%. Due to this, and with the help of new training events, it is planned to increase the level of personnel training.
It should be noted that the issue of modernization of the airborne forces in general and the material part of the troops in particular was already raised a few days ago by the command of this type of troops. So, March 4 "Red Star" published an interview with the Deputy Commander of the Airborne Forces on the airborne training, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Kochetkov. He spoke about the available means of landing, the latest models of this kind and plans for their development.
According to V. Kochetkov, the Bakhcha-U-PDS development project is currently being completed, the purpose of which is to create means of parachuting the airborne troops, such as the BMD-4А or BTR-MDM. An important feature of the new tools will be the possibility of landing a combat vehicle with a crew inside. State joint tests have already been completed, and this year new devices will go into service.
Work continues on the topic with the code "Parachute". This project proposes the creation of a unified parachute platform for vehicles and goods weighing up to 18 t. First of all, it will be used with KamAZ vehicles and equipment based on them, entering the troops. The product "Dalolet" is intended to drop personnel from altitudes 1200-8000 m at speeds of the aircraft to 350 km / h with a delay in opening the parachute to 10 with. Going down from the maximum height, the fighter will be able to fly to 60 km. At the same time, a container with a carrying capacity of 50 kg will be transported with it by parachute.
Several new projects are planned. Already in March, the “Renovation” should start, providing for the modernization of the D-10 and З-5 parachutes. The goal of this project is to adapt existing systems for use with the “Warrior” equipment. The R & D “Shelest”, launched this year, should end with the appearance of a new parachute system for landing airborne troops with a full set of service weapons and equipment.
New means of personnel training are being created. As General Kochetkov said, in the Ryazan Guards Airborne School, an aerodynamic installation was built to test the actions of a parachutist using wing-type systems. Multifunctional installation provides simultaneous training of five paratroopers at once with a full set of equipment and weapons. Last year, the design of the training complex UTK-VDP, intended for the initial parachute training, was completed. Already defined schedule for the supply of such products in schools and parts.
According to V. Kochetkov, the appearance of a number of new parachute systems for people and equipment will markedly increase the combat capability of the airborne troops. The ability to land any equipment in a given area and systems with a long range will significantly improve the mobility of troops. An important advantage of new products will be full compatibility with the equipment "Warrior".
On March 6, some details of the rearmament of the Airborne Forces were revealed by Defense Minister Army General Sergei Shoigu. This year this type of troops will have to receive Tanks T-72B3, BMD-4M airborne combat vehicles, BTR-MDM armored personnel carriers, D-30 howitzers, and other materiel. The total number of armored combat vehicles and artillery systems for the Airborne Forces, the delivery of which is scheduled for this year, is more than 30 units. Also, according to S. Shoigu, the development of controls, logistics, infrastructure and training facilities will continue. The troops will receive not only military equipment, but also reconnaissance and electronic warfare equipment.
March 14 Colonel General A. Serdyukov told RIA News on some plans to create advanced weapons especially for the airborne forces. According to him, the industry is currently working on a new anti-aircraft missile system with the cipher "Birdies". This short-range air defense system is created in accordance with special requirements, stipulating the possibility of parachute landing. So for the first time in stories Airborne troops will receive a missile system with similar capabilities.
As the commander of the Airborne Forces told, at present the “Birdies” project is at the stage of determining the technical appearance of the future complex. In the next few years, the necessary development work will be completed, after which the system will be able to go into service. According to current plans, the troops of the airborne system "Birdies" will go in 2022 year. Thus, the procurement of serial equipment will be carried out in the framework of the new State Armaments Program in force in the 2018-2025 years. The complexes of the new type are designed to replace the existing Strela-10М3 combat vehicles that do not have a number of critical capabilities for the Airborne Forces.
Several years ago, when drawing up a plan for the development of the armed forces, the military and political leadership of the Russian Federation decided to make airborne troops the basis of the rapid reaction force. To do this, the modernized army will need new weapons and equipment, improved communications and control, as well as other systems, systems, etc. Special attention should now be paid to the training of personnel. Acting within the framework of the approved plans, the Ministry of Defense has already been able to significantly increase the main indicators of the Airborne Forces; similar processes will continue in the future. And this means that in a few years the command of the troops will be able to proudly report on the full implementation of the tasks set and a new contribution to the country's defense capability.
