The British press is indignant: Teresa May does not want to take money from the Russian rich
London promised a “tough response” to Russia for “poisoning” the former double agent Skrypal and his daughter. But what kind of measures? According to The Guardian journalist Luke Harding, they are quite modest. They will not stop Russia.
The expulsion of twenty-three Russian diplomats from the kingdom will only be a temporary rebuff to the Kremlin in its espionage activities on British territory. "This will not stop espionage on the part of Russia and will not break the network of undisclosed illegal immigrants who live undercover," - quotes "InoTV" journalist.
Another measure T. May - new laws that allow to delay suspicious types that cross the British border. Enhanced inspections of private jets were also initiated. Finally, it points to the freezing of "some" Russian accounts.
Harding is sure that such measures are logical, but they will not protect the country from repetitive poisoning.
As for the Russians, they were not upset at all: “Officials in Moscow will not care enough about the absence of members of the royal family and the British Cabinet at the World Championships to be held this summer in Russia ... Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov does not hide his dislike for Britain”.
Harding reminds: the Russian elite is vulnerable, because it holds capital in the West. And very often holds in corporations and banks of London. Today, a whole stratum of Britons serves the rich Russians. Why doesn't May talk about it? After all, she could “freeze” access to the property of Alisher Usmanov, Igor Shuvalov and other oligarchs.
The author concludes: "Nothing of what May has announced will certainly not be able to keep Putin from further adventures, similar to what happened in Salisbury."
Mr. Harding, we note, forgot the main thing: the UK is not the Land of the Soviets. Here capitalism rules the ball. If money flows from Russia to London, it is good for capitalism. Bad for capitalism it would be different: if the money flowed from London. Say, to Moscow. Theresa May understands this, but Luke Harding does not understand.
