Russian special forces in Syria impressed Western experts

Sarah Fainberg, an expert at the Israel National Security Institute, in her article on the deployment of Russian special operations forces in Syria, calls the Arab Republic a large-scale training ground for special forces of the Russian Armed Forces. In her opinion, the tasks of the special units include: targeting aircraft to terrorist facilities, eliminating militant commanders and conducting assault operations.

Syria, she continues, became the first foreign country where the elite of the Russian army was involved so extensively. This allowed to hone the skills of special forces without additional financial costs. The number of fighters in Syria, according to Feinberg, is up to 250 people.

An expert from the Israeli National Security Institute believes that the successful conduct of a military operation against international terrorism in Syria indicates a rebirth of Russian military art.
