Coup in Qatar: Did Ikhvan Abdelazizovich with Ihvan Khalifovich quarrel?

17 April 2012 Russian news agencies, referring to the Iranian press, reported on a failed military coup in Doha, Qatar. Qatar is one of the main architects of the “Arab Spring”, in word and deed confirming its very considerable ambitions in the region. Therefore, a coup in this country would be the central event of the last two years - however, whether such an attempt was in fact, remains for certain unknown. P.2 is trying to restore the plot and plot of this information phenomenon.

How Nepaturned Qatari Emir

Iran’s presstv.ir site, which 17 in English quoted in English in April, became the main source of hearing. news, posted on the same day on the Saudi Arabian-controlled Al-Arabiya portal (site of the channel of the same name).

A Saudi source published a report on a failed coup, consisting of one sentence in Arabic: “Recently, an attempt was made against the pro-American regime of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, which, however, failed.”

The news was immediately commented on Twitter by a Saudi journalist, a student at the Columbia School in Washington, Ahmed Al-Omran, who denied the news of the coup, calling it "disinformation initiated on Facebook by pro-Assad groups."

For reasons that are not quite obvious, the Iranian site decided to add details without specifying the source of its information: “A number of high-ranking Qatari officers rebelled against the emir, causing fierce clashes between April 17 army officers and emir guards outside the palace of the ruler.” Let us emphasize that the entire text went with reference to the Al-Arabiya channel, but there was nothing about the Guards or the fierce battles on the Al-Arabiya website.

On Al-Arabia, a short initial message, illustrated with a photograph of the Chief of General Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, was soon deleted without any official comments.

At the same time, a number of Arabic-language recordings of the following content appear on Twitter by Mohammed Saud Jamal, editor of the Al-Arabiya website:

“News began to come in from various sources, in particular on the Facebook page titled“ The Revolution in Qatar ”states that the situation in Qatar became threatening. We are waiting for confirmation from the people of Qatar ";
“It is reported on the opposition of the Chief of the General Staff of the Qatar Army, Brigadier General Hamad bin Ali Al-Atiyah, and unrest in the army units”;
“According to the news, the Emir of Qatar, Hamad and his wife left the palace under the protection of American special forces”;
“It is reported about the coup, which is headed by the personal guard of the Emir; She is opposed by American special forces. There are fierce battles in the Emir’s Palace area. ”
Iranian presstv.ir has released his retelling of this stories under the heading "Saudi and Qatari media in the struggle for power." It seems that the Iranians were pursuing their own goals: the publication of an inaccurate report by the Saudi "Al-Arabiya" and its quick removal from the site were attempted by the Iranians to escalate tensions between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

After thinking less than a day, Al-Arabia eventually explained the publication and deletion of the text, calling the news of the attempted coup in Qatar an action of pro-Assad hackers from the so-called Syrian Electronic Army. According to the portal, the Syrian pro-government cyber warriors used a trick with the substitution of one of the pages of the channel's website.

It is not completely clear, however, why it took almost a whole day to refute. Whether it was the result of eternal Arab slowness and bureaucracy or part of the plan, P. 2 is difficult to determine.

Interesting are some details that are reported by the press in the region.

Points of View: Iran

The material on presstv.ir is issued under the heading "Saudi and Qatari media in the struggle for power." For illustration, a large-scale photograph was randomly or specially selected, in which the emir of Qatar looks particularly obese, although other photos are also quite available. Below is the subtitle: "New friction between Sadovskaya Arabia and Qatar due to the publication of unconfirmed reports about an attempted military coup in Doha by the Saudi news channel Al-Arabiya." Further, with indispensable references to the Saudi website, there is a story about an attempted coup, including reports about the arrest of a group of Qatari officers and the evacuation of the Emir of Qatar and his wife on American helicopters from the country in an unknown direction (the Russian press reported that the Qatari crowned couple sat out in Italy ex-premier Berlusconi).

The second part of the message follows the Iranian channel’s own comments on the seizure of the original message by Al-Arabia, on the unsuccessful attempt of the Iranian channel to get clear answers from Saudi colleagues and Qatari Al-Jazeera TV. Summarizes the Iranian resource with a remark about the typical character of coups and conspiracies for Qatar, including a reminder that the current ruling emir in 1995 came to power as a result of a conspiracy against his own father.

Note: he in 1972 also overthrew the grandfather of the current emir, who was abroad. In both cases, the transfer of power was peaceful and was a means of solving the national crisis (perhaps agreed with the ruling elite) without an act of abdication.

In addition, the Iranian portal has noted an escalation of tension between Doha and Riyadh in recent months, after reports that Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jaber Al-Thani allegedly appealed to the Qatari army to be ready for the occupation of Qatar’s neighboring eastern oil-bearing regions. Saudi Arabia.

Vignette: Iranian network hamsters mainly regret that the coup did not really happen, and hopes for the early overthrow of the regimes in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

Viewpoint: Egypt

The site of one of the oldest Arabic-language newspapers in the region, the Egyptian Al-Ahram, as well as the Mukhyt pan-Arabic portal (moheet.com, headquarters in Giza) draw attention to the following details.

It is justly and wisely clarified that some Qataris initially stated that there was no reason for rumors about the coup, since Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa and his wife 17 on April were not in the palace because they were visiting Italy.

Egyptian sources claim that rumors of a coup in Qatar and other signs of a possible regime change have begun to circulate since the beginning of the Arab Spring. In particular, in February 2011 also, at the suggestion of the Saudi press, information was disseminated about the attempt on the Emir of Qatar and the attempted coup planned by the officers of the personal guard of the emir and a group of army officers from the command of the Al Tani battalion led by Brigadier General Al-Atiyah.

However, according to some sources, the reason for the rumors was the collision of two trucks, one of which was a tank truck with gasoline, which led to an explosion and a fire near the palace of the Emir. The guard of the palace was allegedly reinforced by American soldiers. Then, some analysts also explained the rumors about a coup by the machinations of supporters of the Syrian regime, who were thus trying to destabilize the situation "in a small country that delivers big trouble to big Syria." According to these analysts, the “hostility” to Qatar’s leadership in regional politics and to its “excessively” significant influence on events was shared here by many other countries in the region. In particular, Qatar was charged with “creating hotbeds of tension and stirring up revolutions” in the Arab world (particularly in Libya). The emir of Qatar also “looked at the sight” of his father’s overthrow.

It is very interesting that “Mukhyt” referring to high-ranking sources surrounded by the Emir of Qatar from among the highest military leadership of the country and representatives of the ruling dynasty, reports that there is considerable discontent with Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa among the elites. This allegedly forced the ruling emir to hold a closed meeting with the participation of influential representatives of the Al Tani clan - in order to prevent attempted coup and prevent the ruling dynasty from splitting.

In addition, the Emir of Qatar instructed his personal secretary, Saad Al-Ramiha, to oversee the activities of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as to coordinate the interaction between these ministries and the emir’s sofa (apparatus).

One of the reasons for the dissatisfaction of the military leadership and members of the Al-Thani clan is the policy of the Emir towards the United States, which led to the deployment of foreign military bases in the country and turned Qatar into an American puppet, say Egyptian observers. The use of the territory of Qatar for actions that violate the sovereignty of other Arab states is especially irritating nationalists and religious fundamentalists in the Qatari elite.

The Emir’s policy of rapid rapprochement with Israel, including the exchange of secret visits to co-ordinate coordination of actions, simultaneously accompanied by estrangement from the “fraternal” Arab states, is fueling the flames.

P.2 considers it appropriate to focus on this thesis.

To this, the sources add a sense of humiliation that Qatar’s military circles have experienced since in December, during the operation Cast Lead, phosphorus and high-precision guided munitions for the Israeli armed forces were transported through Qatar. “The bombs were used to burn down residential areas of Palestinian brothers from American air bases deployed in the fiefdoms of the sheikhs of the noble Arab tribe of Tamim,” the Qatari military resent. On the condition of complete anonymity, the sources of “Mukhit” in Qatar told about the presence of video recording, which was in circulation in a very narrow circle of military leadership of Qatar and the ruling dynasty. The record records the facts of the suspension of phosphoric and guided bombs, other means of destruction on aircraft operating from American air bases in Qatar and flying over an “air bridge” between Qatar and Israel in transit through a third country. According to one source, the video was made by high-ranking Qatari officers and demonstrated to the top of the ruling dynasty. In the latter, it allegedly caused shock and sharp rejection of the double and controversial role played by Qatar, publicly supporting the Palestinians, and non-publicly supplying weapons the killers of the Palestinian nation.

Regional ambitions: the battle of laughter

Until now, it is believed that relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia are quite even and even friendly, although there are prerequisites for possible confrontation. More recently, Doha communicated with Riyadh with some distrust, since little Qatar causes jealousy and irritation of the neighboring kingdom.

One reason for this - the concerns of Saudi Arabia in connection with the new ambitions and capabilities of Qatar. The regular border disputes that took place in the past were, for example, irritated by the Saudis due to the growing influence of Al-Jazeera, this Arab CNN, the brainchild of the current emir who has become the vanguard of the Arab revolutions of the last one and a half years.

In addition, Saudi Arabia over the past decades has become accustomed to the benefits of its position as the main Anglo-Saxon ally in the Arab world. There is reason to believe that the Saudi elites have learned to use the status of an economic and military partner of the United States and Great Britain in a diverse and tasteful way. Saudis have the ability to influence oil quotes, and the country's main American military base is located in the region.

Qatar, and so playing an increasingly independent role in the energy market, also hosted an American military base, not inferior to the Saudi one, undermining Riyadh’s monopoly in this area and giving Washington room for maneuver. Presumably, in the long run, this should be a serious irritant for Saudi Arabia. There is already a precedent - when Saudi Arabia opposed the US invasion of Iraq, Qatar provided this particular airbase to the attacking side, leaving Riyadh no chance of avoiding zugzwang. Recall - for nearly a decade, the kingdom is reeling from the activities of various forces ideologically united by their hatred for the American military presence on the land of the Prophet Mohammed and who consider the royal house to be a traitor’s clique subject to physical destruction.

Qatar, for its part, has not for the first year suspected that the kingdom does not take its sovereignty seriously and can use a convenient opportunity to challenge the independence of the peninsula along with the ownership of Qatari resources.

When Israel invaded southern Lebanon, trying to undermine Hezbollah’s base in the area, Qatar and Saudi Arabia exchanged attacks. Saudi Arabia was very unfriendly towards Hezbollah, which is a protege of the Iranian Shiite regime. Qatar did not like this very much. In turn, Riyadh accused Doha of trying to negotiate with Israel behind all other Arab states.

As for Al-Jazeera, this influential Qatari satellite channel has always irritated the leadership of the countries of the region, at times allowing itself to be very critical, disrespectful and sharp in their address. Since the founding of the channel, Al-Jazeera’s information policy has kept pace with Qatar’s international political ambitions (which is not surprising, since the channel is funded and controlled by local elites). Having a huge audience in the region, the channel repeatedly broadcast materials where Saudi King Abdullah was in an awkward position - for example, being the object of derogatory criticism. Thus, Al-Jazeera did not miss the chance to show to the entire Arab world the skirmish of King Abdullah and Colonel Gaddafi, during which the Libyan leader allowed himself to utterly sarcastic and dismissive appeal to the Saudi king, who, enraged, first answered the spirit of "who the hell are you?" and then predicted Gaddafi's death. Note that the King of Saudi Arabia bears the official title of “Servants and Patron of Two Shrines” (Mecca and Medina), he accepts millions of Muslims from all over the world who go on pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, so the demonstration of his public and unpunished humiliation on TV was extremely decisive foreign gesture.

In 2003 — 2007 the relationship of the kingdom and the emirate experienced the greatest decline. They began to improve in 2007 — 2008. and externally improved so far. The move of the Arab Spring shows that an alliance of these two rivals is possible and effective, but the obvious prerequisites for rivalry give significance to the seemingly absurd and unimportant history with a short turn in Qatar. It can be assumed that the current events around Syria and Iran are key to the map of the region and, in particular, determine the role, place and fate of Saudi and Qatar, since the Arab Spring is a project vital for both Riyadh and Doha .

Thus, a quick glance at the Qatar history of the revolution allows us to draw, for example, the conclusion that Russia's policy in the region is more intelligible and far-sighted than it seems to other observers who believe that Russia and China are out of sheer stubbornness and hatred towards freedom and democracy, they put a spoke in the wheels of the forces of good and beauty.

    There is no smoke without fire ...
    The fact that there are such sentiments among the subjects of Qatar is already good, the worse the emir is drunk, the better Syria and Iran ...
    On the other hand, the emir threw his father ... why not the emir’s son repeat the trick? fermentation is already there ...

      A quote from the article - Iranian network hamsters mostly express regret that the coup did not actually happen, and hopes for an early overthrow of the regimes in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

      What can I say - I fully support these hamsters. In the confrontation between the Saudis \ Qatar and other proprietary fraternity with Iran - I am completely on the side of Iran

        The fact is that the emir of Qatar is really not at home, but in Italy. It should be noted that the objective probability of a coup d'etat in Qatar exists. There are all prerequisites for her, and abroad, for sure, there are a sufficient number of people interested in adjusting the foreign policy of Qatar.

    The fact that in the emirates in general and in Qatar in particular, the revolution is ripening, everyone knows ... Just the financial interests of Western countries and other friends allow them to turn a blind eye to the Qatari question ... But this is only a matter of time ...

      Most likely Yusovsky oversight. Something all the undertakings of yusiya give an avalanche failure on all fronts, and this is a clear sign of change around the world and is clearly not in favor of the United States. Probably the hour of reckoning for all the sins of the Yankees came.

    We need a stake on some Qatari leader and a coherent program with little funding. In general, they have money, they need special training and a clear calculation. Where the emir will determine the satellite, which road he is driving is also not a problem. Specialists from group "D" (saboteur) know how to lay land mines. And there, like a saber will fall - "Arab Spring" should be for everyone Spring.

    What to say?
    Qatar considered that it was allowed to dig into someone else's "underwear" - actively advocating an invasion of Syria. But while poking around in "someone else's dirty linen" - you can not only get dirty, but also catch the infection!

    Emir of Qatar is an ordinary scum who betrayed his father. There is reason to believe that he did this not without the help of the Americans. There is also reason to believe that this donkey will not die by his death ....
