UN Secretary General welcomed the adoption of a resolution on Syria
The Secretary General expects that "the resolution is implemented immediately and will be respected." The organization is “ready to do its part of the work,” the statement says.
On Saturday, the UN Security Council adopted resolution 2401, which requires all parties to "immediately end the clashes" and be committed to providing a "long humanitarian pause for at least 30 days throughout Syria" to allow the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance and medical evacuation of seriously ill and wounded.
At the meeting, Russian Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzya noted that the humanitarian crisis in Syria is not limited to Eastern Guta alone, recalling the plight of the city of Rakka, which was destroyed by the Western coalition.
