Ankara is surprised by the proposal of the Pentagon to send the YPG to fight the PKK

Ankara was very surprised by the proposal of US Secretary of Defense James Mattis to direct the Syrian Kurds Self-Defense Forces (YPG) to fight the Kurdistan Workers ’Party banned in Turkey (PKK), said Turkish Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalyn on Wednesday.
Earlier, Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Janikli said that during his talks with Mattis from Washington, a proposal was made to separate the YPG from the PKK and force the YPG to fight against this party. Turkey considers the YPG a terrorist organization affiliated with the PKK. Turkey’s relations with the United States are experiencing a crisis due to the military support of the YPG provided by Washington.
This strange statement (of Mattis) was very surprised by all. Neither before this, nor after, nor at my meeting with (US National Security Assistant President Herbert) MacMaster, nor our President at the meeting with (US Secretary of State Rex) Tillerson this was not on the agenda. And we have not heard such a proposal from any of the US officials. Probably, they themselves understood that such a proposal sounds unconvincing, and they no longer insist on it.
- Kalyn told reporters in Ankara.
