Europe and Russia: on the brink of war
Russia and Europe are on the verge of "total war", experts warn in a new report. Information about the report, which has not yet been read anywhere, was published by the popular British newspaper "Express".
The upcoming war between Europe and Russia was sadly told by the correspondent J. Millar (Joey Millar).
The report is intended for the Munich Security Conference. In open access, it will appear only in a week.
The document notes that non-compliance with arms control agreements, the deployment of additional weapons, the tension of the situation and military exercises increased the risk of unintentional armed clashes between the parties.
The parties are, apparently, the European Union and Russia.
Is this year’s annual safety report titled “To the Territory and Back”? And the question in the title is put for a reason.
The authors of the report are concerned about the “growing pressure” on nuclear disarmament treaties and persistent security issues in eastern and central Europe. All this causes experts great concern.
The report says that the current situation may "lead to a further deterioration of the security situation in Europe."
Security experts warn: “In the current difficult situation, mistakes, miscalculations and misunderstandings could well lead to an unintended military confrontation.”
The conflict in Ukraine is another stumbling block that hinders the reduction of tensions between Russia and the West, the report says. And the US decision to put the deadly weapon Ukraine will probably leave the West and Russia in the current impasse.
According to the authors of the report, the countries of Eastern Europe are in a "contested security environment." This strange term means that the indicated countries seemed to be caught in ticks: on the one hand, the European Union and NATO put pressure on them, and on the other, Russia. And this is happening at a time when the EU’s Eastern Partnership policy “has lost its spirit”, and the chances that NATO will soon admit more members to its ranks are few. In addition, other EU members were skeptical about further integration into the EU, while Hungary and Poland were already "in direct confrontation with Brussels." Germany, the EU locomotive and integration force, is now “mostly absent” in the debates on the internal situation in the European Union.
What to do?
Not so bad, indicates the publication. The expert report says that economic growth and improved public sentiment offer a little more than a mere glimmer of hope for the EU. It is primarily about the "economic front".
Yes, and military cooperation on the eastern flank of NATO demonstrates progress. Currently, the alliance is restructuring the structure of the military command. NATO also welcomed the decision of twenty-five EU members to start cooperation in the formation of a permanent structure for the development of defense cooperation. The decision of Germany and France to jointly develop a new generation of fighters is also welcomed.
The main cause for alarm is Russia's foreign policy. That it is a concern in Europe. And experts do not point to some uncertain future, but in the coming years.
In the near future, it will show whether the parties will look for compromises and whether there will be “ambitious proposals” in the European Union aimed at concrete measures and reforms that would attempt to glue cracks formed in the EU.
Recall that European security issues will be discussed at the annual conference in Munich from 16 to 18 in February of 2018. Approximately six hundred high-ranking government and military officials from Europe, Africa, the USA and the Gulf states will come together. There will be representatives from Russia.
The Munich Security Conference is one of the most important forums where political issues and solutions are discussed in a relatively informal setting. The first such conference was held in Munich during the Cold War, in 1963 year. She was led by representatives of the military departments of NATO members. Later, when the USSR collapsed and the “market” Russia ceased to be considered an enemy of the West, the composition of the forum expanded. From 1998, the event is paid from the budget of the Federal Republic of Germany: funds for this are specifically allocated through the German Federal Ministry of Defense (Bundesministerium der Verteidigung).
Interestingly, not everyone is confident that a new meeting at the Munich Security Conference will take place. For example, in Moscow doubt it. Nevertheless, Russian officials are ready for the event.
According to Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, Sergei Lavrov will take part in the Norman format ministerial talks at the Munich Security Conference.
"Sergei Lavrov is ready for such a meeting, if it takes place," - quotes Karasin TASS.
Earlier, the same Karasin said that such a meeting is being worked out, but it’s too early to say that it will take place.
The allegations are not entirely clear, especially when you consider that in the West they are preparing thoroughly for this event. According to German media reports, almost 600 politicians, representatives of public organizations and big business are expected to arrive in Munich. It is already known that twenty heads of state and government and about forty defense ministers will arrive in the capital of Bavaria. About forty people will represent the ministries of defense of different states. This was told by the chairman of the conference, Wolfgang Ischinger.
As noted by Deutsche Welle, The United States will be represented by Secretary of Defense James Mattis, adviser to the president on national security, General Herbert McMaster, twelve senators, former vice-president Joe Biden, and other persons. The EU will be represented by the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and several European commissioners. Prime Minister Theresa May arrives from the UK. For the first time, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will attend the Munich Conference.
As Ischinger recalled, a meeting in the “Norman format” is scheduled as part of the event, dedicated to resolving the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
And there is no reason to cancel this representative conference, especially in the light of the gloomy report of experts who foretell almost a world war.
Perhaps, discussing in an informal setting the sore themes, the main parties, that is, the European Union and Russia, will still find a way to move away from the terrible "edge"?
