The "Swordsman," as the Su-24 was nicknamed in the West, was created during the Cold War. In addition to its direct missions as a front-line bomber, the aircraft had to be able to overcome enemy air defense systems at ultra-low altitude and drop one tactical nuclear bomb in a given area. "Swarm" of Su-24 carrying nuclear weaponwould turn the tide of any war.
Su-24 - the "workhorse" of the Air Force of the Russian Federation. This is the most massive strike aircraft in Russia. He proved his effectiveness in many conflicts, including the Syrian one. Able to drop to 7,5 tons of bombs of different caliber, he was scaring terrorists in Syria. It was on the Su-24 accounted for almost half of all combat sorties from Hmeimim airbase.
Despite the fact that the serial production of the bomber was completed 25 years ago, the military-industrial complex is actively modernizing the aircraft already in service.
