The "Swordsman," as the Su-24 was nicknamed in the West, was created during the Cold War. In addition to its direct missions as a front-line bomber, the aircraft had to be able to overcome enemy air defense systems at ultra-low altitude and drop one tactical nuclear bomb in a given area. "Swarm" of Su-24 carrying nuclear weaponwould turn the tide of any war.

Su-24 - the "workhorse" of the Air Force of the Russian Federation. This is the most massive strike aircraft in Russia. He proved his effectiveness in many conflicts, including the Syrian one. Able to drop to 7,5 tons of bombs of different caliber, he was scaring terrorists in Syria. It was on the Su-24 accounted for almost half of all combat sorties from Hmeimim airbase.

Despite the fact that the serial production of the bomber was completed 25 years ago, the military-industrial complex is actively modernizing the aircraft already in service.

            The main difference between the IL-102 and the Su-25 was precisely the second crew member. Apparently, this circumstance was then not considered a plus of the aircraft, and the second cockpit for the shooter played, most likely, a negative role. However, the operator-shooter, in addition to his main task - to protect against attacks by fighters, combat helicopters and suppress enemy air defense systems - controlled the air situation in the rear hemisphere and the operation of a number of airborne attack systems. Thus, the pilot’s work was much easier, part of the load was removed from him. At the moments of withdrawal from attacks, the operator-gunner could use fire from the rear remotely controlled artillery to suppress and disorganize the enemy, mainly MANPADS and MZA calculations. As the further development of strike aircraft showed, the second crew member on the attack aircraft was not out of place, significantly increasing the efficiency of work at night, in difficult weather conditions, in the case of using high-precision weapons systems.

            In Afghanistan, the old IL-28s had good survivability, with a stern shooter that detected Stinger’s launch and could not only command the traps to be shot, but also “treat” the 23mm launch site with a burst.
            "Spirits" tried not to mess with the "old man" ...
            They even made a diversion and burned almost all the "veterans" in the parking lots.
            The concept of the Su-25 is not clear. Being completely a “child of compromise” in a combined arms battle is not enough that it can. Its biggest advantage is the price of a car / flight hour. the desire to increase the range of the Su-25, and all the problems with the electronics, an overloaded “masterpiece” of the Su-39 came into being that couldn’t even stay in the air (significant restrictions on the modes), and to put a full-fledged EMDS there are no reserves for mass, not for finances .

                        You are a funny person. The objectives for the SU-24 were laid out in Western Europe in the event of a third world war, we were lucky and this war has not happened yet. The conflicts you listed were fought against militants and terrorists, where the use of all the capabilities of the SU-24 was not required, but in the war of 08.08.08, where there were bases, headquarters, air defense systems, it was fully used.
