The enterprise of Rosatom State Corporation Atomflot Federal State Unitary Enterprise (Rosatomflot) at 2017 completed planned work to extend the life of the nuclear power plant at the Vaigach and Taimyr icebreaker, the Rosatomflot press service reported.

This resource has been increased to 200 in thousands of hours, thanks to which the life of nuclear-powered ships has been extended for five years, the report says.

The life of the Vaigach and Taimyr nuclear icebreakers has been extended for another five years

Atomic-powered "Vaigach" and "Taimyr" are equipped with a single-reactor unit with a capacity of about 50 thousand horsepower.

The systematic implementation of the program to extend the life of the reactor facilities allows FSUE Atomflot to completely eliminate the occurrence of the ice break and, with strict fulfillment of contractual obligations, smoothly switch to operating the 22220 universal nuclear icebreakers, which are now being built at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg, the report emphasizes .

The delivery date of the 22220 "Arktika" main nuclear atomic-powered vessel is the middle of the 2019 of the year, the first production atomic icebreaker of this project, Siberia, is November of 2020, and the second production atomic icebreaker of the Urals is November of 2021.

As previously reported, the operation of the Vaigach nuclear-powered ship is scheduled to be completed at the turn of 2023-2024, while Taimyr - in 2025 – 2026, reports RIA News

On which will stand YaSU RITM-200, which should be used in the project of the destroyer Leader.
But these icebreakers will still serve the country, since it’s a good thing that modernization in the USSR was not laid on toys.

Captain’s bridge on the top floor. Increased visibility requirements.

Are the remaining floors empty? Or each crew member has a three bedroom cabin with a personal court

By the way, yes. Wealthy foreign tourists pay big money for Arctic cruises on such ships. There was once a report on TV.

Actually, in the superstructure of the cabin for the crew and passengers (more than 100), the cabin-companies, the assembly hall, swimming pool, sauna, medical unit, etc. Moreover, the cabins are one and two local and very large (not an economy class on ferries).
There is also a Center for managing the energy installation. Workshops. Closer to the stern is a hangar for a helicopter. Warehouses.

if not mistaken, these are icebreakers of reduced draft. They can go to the mouths of rivers.

The living conditions of the crew and passengers are quite comfortable, and to create them requires a lot of space.
Although I do not think that the designers when creating the icebreaker were guided by this criterion. (Especially tourist tours - this is in the days of the USSR?)
After all, an icebreaker does not “crack” ice, but pushes through. Look at the bow - a strong bevel.
An icebreaker with this bevel floats on an ice floe and pushes it through. And to guarantee that ice is pushed, you need a lot of weight.
But for this, the add-on is made so massive and is strongly shifted forward. (that would be heavier nose).

    nuclear-powered icebreaker Vaigach and Taimyr

A distinctive feature of this icebreaker project is a reduced draft, which allows serving vessels following the Northern Sea Route with entry into the mouths of Siberian rivers. And in which country is there still such a variety of ICE-BREAKERS?

Only then it is not advisable to immediately cut the icebreakers out of service into metal - they would be put in reserve for 20 years! And one of them can be used as educational or tourist!

Decommissioned as the resources of the reactor are exhausted. Why keep an icebreaker with worn gear and an empty reactor in reserve?

"Vaigach" and "Taimyr" will work another 20 years. Good ships. Maybe more. The reactor allows. PS Gerkulesych. Do not rummage in the subject, do not go. Sometimes your comments are very sensible. But not in this perspective.

The reactor can and will allow (which is in doubt) (the primary circuit GIs after recharging have a strictly limited number of times, it all depends on the permission of the designer (extension of the resource), who is responsible for the safe operation of the nuclear power plant) Steam generators are definitely not.
