New US Democratic Approach in Moldova: Unite and Conquer
“Last week was the propaganda of how skillfully and subtly NATO troops sow death and destruction around the world under the guise of help,” said LRM activist Anna Pochtar at the rally.
The participants of the action expressed their concern about the increasingly active presence of an aggressive military-political alliance in Moldova. The demonstrators chanted slogans: “Moldova without NATO”, “NATO - we don’t need”, “Moldova is a peaceful country, Moldova isn’t needed a war”, “Moldova is a neutral country” (IA "REGNUM").
Moldova really has the status of a neutral country, which, by the way, NATO ... supports: "The North Atlantic Alliance maintains the neutral status of Moldova," NATO Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bisongiero said during a meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vlad Filat in Brussels, informs IA "News-Moldova "(news.point.md).
A typical case of a policy of double standards, apparently referring to both NATO and the government and parliament of Moldova. NATO has long been chosen by this country. For example, last year the North Atlantic Alliance embarked on pesticide destruction on its territory.
And where is NATO, there, as is known, is America. Otherwise, why would you spend a “week,” for example, not in Turkey? Indeed, because of this, the 60 anniversary of the accession of Turkey to the alliance of Turkey was celebrated in Chisinau! The Turkish ambassador to Moldova, Kartal, even gave a lecture on this very sixtieth anniversary.
On the eve of the NATO week, at the end of March, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Defense Celeste Wallander told the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Filat that the United States is ready to help Moldova in strengthening the capacity of the country's armed forces and in training military specialists. The main thing here is not in the proposed assistance - the amount of assistance to Moldova from the United States has always been relatively modest in comparison with the help of many other countries, but in the fact that America is very interested in the "territorial integrity" of the republic.
“A separate topic of discussion was the problem of resolving the Moldovan-Transdniestrian conflict. In this context, Filat informed the guest about the latest developments in this direction. “Today in Tiraspol I once again meet with Yevgeny Shevchuk, this will be the first meeting to be held without intermediaries in the process. The issues we are discussing at this stage relate to solving the problems of the daily lives of citizens, including the free movement of people and cargo transportation by rail, ”the Prime Minister specified. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that all the efforts of the Moldovan government are aimed at the realization of the main goal - “reunification of the country”.
In turn, Celeste Wallander declared Washington’s full support for the position of the Moldovan government regarding the consideration of the “Transnistrian problem” and settlement mechanisms based on the principles of “territorial integrity” and the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova ”(IA "REGNUM").
So, continuous friendly "settlement", up to "reunification".
How to explain the increased activity of America in Moldova? Why did the United States attend to the consolidation of democracy in Moldova, for which, by the way, has long been a member of the WTO, the Jackson-Vanik amendment is still in effect? However, Washington may cancel this restrictive measure at any time. Perhaps, it is also needed in order to “consolidate” the new friendly relations of the two countries at an opportunity. A whip, and at the same time a carrot: two in one.
With American goals and objectives in Moldova, everything is very simple. As always: democracy, peace on the planet and the total friendship of nations, sealed by NATO fraternal ties.
The USA pursues the following goals in Moldova: 1) weakening of the republic’s ties with the Russian Federation along with the liquidation of the last “island of communism” - Transnistria; 2) the early incorporation of the “reunited” country into the NATO bloc; 3) the subsequent strengthening of the position of the "world hegemon" in the connected post-Soviet region.
The United States is also interested in the Moldovan-Romanian question about the Anschluss, which is actively promoted by Romanian politicians. It is known that it was this “issue” that in 1992 was caused by the breakaway from Moldova of Transnistria (Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic), during which Romania took the side of Moldova.
“After the end of hostilities up to 2000, Moldova’s foreign policy strategy, however, became Moldovanism - the movement for Moldovan statehood independent of Romania. 29 July 1994, the newly adopted Constitution of the Republic of Moldova approved the Moldovan language as the state, and in October 1994, the first independent population census took place - excluding Transnistria, 3,4 million people lived in the republic. The estimated number of Transnistrians was 0,5 million. In 1994, after the referendum, Moldova entered the CIS. At the end of 1994, the Gagauz autonomy appeared in the Republic of Moldova.
In 1998 — 2000 ... Romania became the second most important trading partner of Moldova and, in particular, connected it to its own power grid ”(memoid).
In the foreseeable future, the United States is unlikely to support the idea of uniting Romania and Moldova. The “reunification” of Moldova and Transdniestria, approved by the States and necessary for them to weaken Russia and strengthen their own influence in the post-Soviet space, would have nothing in common with such Anschluss, since the Romanians of Transnistria have not historically considered their own. In addition, the Anschluss is not an idea that can be served under the “reunion” sauce. Therefore, the States declare support for the "territorial integrity" of Moldova, and not the "territorial integrity" of Romania.
The “reunification” of Moldova with Transnistria with American assistance (for which Chisinau would become the eternal debtor of Washington) could be an ideal option for translating America’s hegemonic aspirations. William Moser, not without reason, says: “In particular, the current US ambassador to Chisinau, William Moser, in his speech in the Senate during the approval procedure for the post, noted the following:“ The United States provides support to Moldova through various programs in order to create modern, sustainable armed forces ... that can work together with Euro-Atlantic structures. " Further, the ambassador said that US assistance is aimed at “strengthening Moldova’s ability to conduct operations to achieve peace and stability in support of multinational coalitions” (IA "REGNUM", from the report of Sergey Mikhailov, a senior researcher at the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISI), made at the international conference “Bessarabia’s joining Russia in light of the centuries-old Moldovan-Russian-Ukrainian cooperation”, 2-4 on April 2012, Vadul-lui-Vodă, Moldova).
“Support for multinational coalitions” is a geopolitical innovation of the United States. You can’t say that in Yugoslavia, under the influence of US aid, a “multinational coalition” turned out ...
The work of the United States and NATO in the Moldovan direction is already underway. 27 March, being in Brussels, Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat addressed some interesting requests to NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. “Filat asked NATO about special support for Moldova, namely: to give Moldova the same privileged status in relations with NATO, which Georgia has, to recognize the Joint Council of the Governments of Romania and Moldova as a special partner of NATO, to put pressure on the special representative of the President of Russia in Transnistria, Dmitry Rogozin so that he “did not interfere in the internal affairs of Moldova” (IA "REGNUM").
Why Moldova, speaking with the United States, is equal to Georgia? Why? Why, Georgia receives an average of $ 0,5 billion a year in aid from America, while Moldova receives a little more than $ 20 million. It's a shame! So I want the government of Moldova will be useful to the US government. For that, Chisinau needs “NATO weeks”, and it is for this that the talk about the alteration of the constitution is being conducted in Moldova today.
In general, in one fell swoop, three birds with one stone are killed: both Russia - to the side, and money in the form of help - more, and NATO - to the republic. You never know there is a neutral country! .. Under the "special status" of the new president, without further ado, and rewrite the constitution. “The new President of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, in his speech at the Parliament declared that he would stand for amending the Constitution of the country, with a view to its improvement. The President stresses that the current Constitution requires many amendments ”("Moldinfo").
Here is the main thesis of the manager Timofti: “Big countries are engaged in big politics. Moldova should pursue a sensible policy, as it has done in recent years ”(the same source).
That's right. The “reasonable policy” for small Moldova is to attach it to the brotherly European wing of NATO. That is why the United States endorses the idea of Moldova joining the EU and is doing all it can to help. For the sake of such a thing, they even easily forget about the bureaucratic amendment of the Jackson-Vanik.
“Also, the United States is unequivocally in favor of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, probably more strongly than the majority of the EU members themselves. First, Washington realizes that, as in other cases with the CEE countries, joining the EU will inevitably be a guarantee that Moldova’s economic and political ties with Russia will never reach a higher level, but will even more weaken compared to the current one. In addition, one should not forget about the economic competition of the US itself with the EU, and that the entry of new members into the European Union would further increase the financial burden on Brussels and Berlin. At the same time, among American politicians there is an understanding that the prospect of Moldova joining the European Union is very remote. In particular, in June 2011, the report of the research service of the US Congress noted that "the EU is unlikely to accept Moldova as a candidate in the foreseeable future, because of its poverty, as well as its own internal problems of the EU."
Based on the stated task of incorporating Moldova into Euro-Atlantic structures, the United States is also building its approach to the issue of conflict with Transnistria. Obviously, the American leadership would like to resolve this issue not under any conditions, but only in such a way that, as a result, Chisinau’s Euro-Atlantic orientation would not be under threat ... ”(IA "REGNUM", from the report of Sergei Mikhailov).
As a result, America is simultaneously pursuing approaches from two "wings": cooperation with NATO and the "multinational coalition." And all this is against the background of the quiet pushing of the republic in the EU. First we take NATO, then we give financial assistance from a poor country to average, and you will be happy in the EU, and NATO will be happy in the form of new military bases on the territory of a “neutral” country with a constitution rewritten under the dictation of the Alliance and Washington.
Moldovan quote to the topic:
“If Moldova wanted to join NATO, it would have to fulfill a number of conditions, including the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict,” said the director of the NATO Information and Documentation Center, Vitaly Grosu, in an interview with Infotag.
Also, according to Mr. Grosu, “the Republic of Moldova should act on the basis of national interests, without looking back at Russia” ("Kommersant.md").
Yes, only Russia NATO-American Moldova is hardly needed. First, a week of NATO in Ukraine, then in Moldova ... Therefore, it is quite possible that Washington will help Chisinau, and Moscow - to help Tiraspol. At least, Moldovans are already thinking about this topic:
“It is unlikely that Russia will take the path of recognizing Transnistrian statehood, and most likely it will turn the regions of the left bank of the Dniester into a zone of stability and well-being. So says political analyst and journalist Arkady Gerasim, writes Tribuna. He noted that the rate of this scenario can be the fact that right-bank citizens of the Republic of Moldova, they say, must believe that it is possible to live well if you have such a strong ally as the Russian Federation. “In other words, an attempt will be made to“ transnistrianize ”the Republic of Moldova,” says Arkady Gerasim. In his opinion, Russia will no longer follow the path of gross interference in its policy towards the Republic of Moldova, since this could untie Chisinau’s hands for closer rapprochement with Romania, the European Union and NATO ”(IA "REGNUM").
The forecast, of course, looks a little fantastic, but in this situation poor Moldova, having forgotten about the interests of the United States, will wish to unite with rich Transnistria.
