Syria flared up again. On January 21, the Turkish leadership announced that their units had entered the Syrian city of Afrin, controlled by the Kurds. There are fights using tanksartillery aviation - all this looks very serious. What is really happening and what are the goals of Turkey?

According to the military commentator of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Colonel Viktor Baranets, the situation in Syria resembles a chessboard on which all the pieces are mixed. A few months ago, the American authorities announced plans to create a certain state in the northern parts of Syria. The reaction from Turkey and official Damascus followed immediately. Countries accused the US of violating international law and trying to unleash a new war.

However, some time later, the Americans changed their plans and reported on the creation of a new "border army", the purpose of which would be to prevent the re-emergence of ISIS.
