F-117: a plastic "freak" that fell short of expectations
36
The plane, which was unnoticeable for radar, was the dream of all aircraft designers from the moment the radar itself appeared. The first such aircraft, to one degree or another, was the American high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft SR-71. The technology "stealth" worked on it was first used on a large scale when creating a tactical bomber F-117.
For comparatively high stealth indicators we had to more than pay the maneuverability characteristics of the aircraft. It was extremely unstable in the air, which required the integration of complex automatic control systems. Moreover, the angular shape of the airframe eliminated the possibility of the aircraft going to supersonic speeds.
However, F-117 participated in a number of military conflicts. These bombers carried democracy to Panama, Iraq and Yugoslavia.
Invisible was planned to use the flesh before 2018, but the obsolescence of the aircraft was the reason for its withdrawal from the US Air Force a decade earlier.
