The explosion at the largest gas hub in Austria. Deliveries from Russia at risk?
The fire can be seen from a distance of several kilometers from the source of fire. According to preliminary data, technical problems caused the explosion.
Due to the incident at the gas transmission and gas storage infrastructure in Austria, Russian gas supplies to a number of EU countries were disrupted. In particular, problems have arisen with the transit of “blue fuel” to the southern and south-eastern countries of the European Union.
We are talking about Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia. At the same time, problems arose with the so-called reverse gas supplies from Slovakia and Hungary to Ukraine. In particular, there was a sharp decline in transit volumes along the so-called Uzhgorod corridor by the Slovak operator Eustream.
The press service of Gas Connect Austria reports that in a crisis situation it is necessary “to replace imported gas with our own energy sources”. In this case, it is stated that such a substitution cannot be long.
It is noted that not only Russian gas, but also gas from Norway entered the terminal of Austrian Baumgarten.
According to the latest data, there are no Russians among the dead and injured.
