"Ilya Muromets" - a universal Arctic hero

For the first time in 30 years, the composition of the Navy fleet Russia received a new icebreaker. In the Arctic, the whole range of his abilities will be in demand: breaking ice, conducting vessels, conducting scientific work. Along with this, he can participate in rescue operations, search for sunken ships, liquidate oil spills and put out fires.

    “Ilya Muromets” with serial number 02470 was laid down on April 23, 2015, launched on June 10, 2016, from July 22 to September 12, 2017 it passed factory sea trials, and on October 5 it went to the state acceptance tests.
    Well, today in St. Petersburg at the Admiralty Shipyards JSC, after the successful completion of sea and state tests, the Navy flag was hoisted on the Ilya Muromets icebreaker of project 21180.
    And for the author of the article (for the first time in 30 years, the Russian Navy received a new icebreaker): “Ilya Muromets” became the seventh icebreaker built in modern Russia.
