Matua Island. What were 70 silent for years?

11
At the beginning of June 2017, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation together with the Russian Geographical Society began an expedition to the island of Matua. This island played a strategic role during the Second World War. The Japanese turned it into an "unsinkable aircraft carrier" - the strongest stronghold among the other islands of the Kuril Ridge. Were built powerful fortifications, long-term firing points and underground infrastructure.

EBN passed a lot of things, but did not have time for the Kuril Islands.

In the early 80s with the USSR Air Force Command (Generals Denisov V., Terkin V., Head of the Research Institute of the RN Colonel Ivanov A., Director of the Research Institute-93 Guzhva Yu.) I arrived at the Kuril Ridge. They flew around all the islands, chose the locations of the Tropic RSDN base stations. I liked the island of Matua, there were still Japanese rusty tanks. Good luck, our troops in the defense of the country. We defended her.
And my father-in-law (the father of his wife) commanded the Marine Corps in 1945 during the liberation of these islands from the Japanese. I have the honor.

My father ended the war on Kunashir, served there, met my mother and I had the good fortune of being born there.
I watched the movie with pleasure.

Yes, the sequel would be nice! As I understand it, work at the very beginning has not yet been found anything particularly interesting. Well, and the Japs, I feel, knowingly kicking the Kuril Islands with their feet!
