The company BrahMos Aerospace Limited will perform the first launch of an aviation version of the supersonic KR BrahMos from the Su-30MKI Indian Air Force fighter this year, defencenews.in reports (February 17).
Such a statement was made on February 16 by a representative of the Russian company Irkut. The source said that some of the Su-30MKI fighters will be equipped with these missiles, the TFR is similar to the Russian Yakhont missile. The main advantages of this missile are high speed, a variety of tactical methods of flight to the target, compatibility of all three versions - aviation, ship and ground.
The missiles are designed to destroy a wide range of moving naval targets, have a range of 290 km, a supersonic speed of 2,8 M and a warhead weighing up to 250 kg. The mass of the rocket is 3 tons; it flies at altitudes from 10 to 14000 m. Experts say that in the world there is no rocket similar to Bramos capable of flying at supersonic sounds at such a wide range of altitudes.
It is reported that missiles of this type aroused considerable interest in Vietnam.
