The presidents of Russia and the United States, who were in Vietnam at the APEC summit, approved a joint statement on the situation in Syria. It is reported that the document was prepared by representatives of the delegations of the two countries and agreed upon by the foreign ministers of the Russian Federation and the United States of America.
The document was prepared by experts of the two countries and agreed upon by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. The statement is specially prepared for the meeting in Da Nang. The conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump took place before the start of the ceremony of joint photographing of the leaders of the APEC forum economies.
The joint statement says that the presidents of Russia and the United States agreed to continue active operations until the complete destruction of the ISIL terrorist group (* banned in Russia) in the SAR.
From the text:
President Putin and President Trump reaffirmed the importance of de-escalation zones as a temporary measure to reduce violence in Syria, implement agreements to end hostilities, improve unhindered humanitarian access, and create conditions for a final political settlement of the conflict. A final political settlement of the conflict must be found within the framework of the Geneva process in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254.
It was noted that the presidents of Russia and the United States called on international organizations, including the United Nations, to increase the volume of humanitarian aid allocated for Syria and to participate more actively in the Geneva format.
In the expert environment, they note that the statement, by and large, does not solve anything in matters of further relations between Moscow and Washington, and more was done "for show".
