Product "Ledum": an unknown component of defense

23
The development and modernization of the armed forces involve the creation of new designs. weapons and technology of different classes. In recent years, special attention has been paid to the development of air defense, thanks to which several new models have been developed and adopted. One of the recent innovations was the Bagulnik anti-aircraft missile system. Its adoption was announced in early October.

October 7 Deputy Defense Minister General of the Army Dmitry Bulgakov told the press about the latest achievements in the field of army re-equipment. According to him, over the past five years, 137 of new types of weapons and equipment were put into service. Among the latest developments are present and means of defense. One of the main innovations in this area was the Strela-10MN and Bagulnik anti-aircraft missile systems. At the same time, the representative of the military department did not specify the number of ordered and supplied equipment of these types.

Product "Ledum": an unknown component of defense
ZRK "Pine" - the main result of the ROC "Bagulnik"

For known reasons, the army and industry do not always publish full information about new developments, but some of the curious information is still becoming public knowledge. A typical exception to this unwritten rule was the design of Bagulnik anti-aircraft missile system. The first information about the existence of this project was published many years ago, but detailed technical and other data were hardly published in the future. However, to date, managed to make a fairly detailed picture.

Due to the lack of information, specialists and amateur technicians had to rely on various fragmentary information and assessments. As a result, the previous picture was far from complete, and also had a lot of white spots. Moreover, at the moment official information about the “Bagulnik” project is limited to just a few facts: it is known about its existence, about continuity with existing samples, about some characteristics, as well as about the recent adoption of ready-made equipment for service. Nevertheless, we will try to consider the available information and try to draw some conclusions.

The first mention of the development work under the code "Bagulnik" refers to the second half of the last decade. Back in 2007, the press indicated the presence of a new project called “Ledum Rose”, with the help of which it was supposed to ensure the re-equipment of military air defense. According to the data of that time, this air defense system was considered as a replacement for the existing Strela-10 systems. Assumptions were made about the technical and combat characteristics of the complex.

It was also claimed that the “Bagulnik” will be put into service as early as 2008. To complement this system in the regimental level, the Verba portable missile system was supposed to. As it became clear later, these predictions were not justified. Both Verba and Bagulnik were put into service only in recent years - with a noticeable delay regarding the date, which was called ten years ago.

Optical-electronic means "Pines"

In 2007, the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda announced important information about the new project. According to her, in the framework of the project "Ledum" was developed a new shooting module with an index GRAU 9P337. This product was intended for use as part of the Pine anti-aircraft missile system. At the same time, as follows from the published article, by this time a prototype of the module was built at the Tulamashzavod enterprise.

Later, some details of an organizational and technical nature appeared, considerably adding to the existing picture. In 2008, at the time of one of the military-scientific conferences of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel-General Nikolai Frolov, at that time commanding military air defense, announced the prospects for the development of anti-aircraft systems. According to him, in the foreseeable future, a two-stage modernization of the existing Strela-10М3 air defense system should have been carried out.

The end result of the new project was to be an anti-aircraft complex called "Bagulnik", equipped with a laser guided missile guidance system. Having a new control system, such an air defense system was supposed to intercept various air targets, including aviation means of destruction. To search for targets, it was necessary to use a passive infrared station with a circular view, for destruction - a small-sized guided missile. The desired parameters of the affected area were also determined: 14 km in radius and 9 km in height.

Over the next few years, the promising anti-aircraft complex Bagulnik was not mentioned in official communications. At the same time from time to time there were some information or evaluation. As stated, new information leaked through unofficial channels. In addition, the available information about this project and other modern developments served as the basis for new findings.

Information on the creation of the Bagulnik complex through a two-stage modernization of the existing Strela-10М3 SAM system led to the appearance of an assumption about the project developer. It is believed that a new type of complex was to be created by the Moscow Design Bureau of Precision Engineering. A.E. Nudelman. It should be noted that the “Bagulnik” project was not mentioned in the official materials and reports of this enterprise.

Fighting vehicle at the site

Over the past years, the promising air defense system with the code “Bagulnik” has repeatedly become the topic of discussion, and the public, through joint efforts, has been able to form the most logical technical image of this sample. However, these assumptions could not be verified until a certain time.

Information a decade ago about creating a shooting module 9P337 reveal the essence of the new project. It follows from them that under the code "Ledum" hides not a full-fledged anti-aircraft complex, but only one of its elements. The entire product assembly, in turn, is called "Pine". This complex appeared not so long ago, but already managed to get a certain fame. In addition, as the leadership of the Ministry of Defense recently recalled, he should get into the troops.

Back in 2007, there was information about the development of a shooting module with the index 9П337 within the framework of the ROC "Bagulnik". The appearance of this product remained unknown for a long time, although there were grounds for believing that it could be similar to the modules of the existing air defense missile systems. By now, industry and the military have uncovered the look of the Sosna complex, which allows for a close look at its individual elements.

The 9P337 firing module for the Pine air defense missile system is made in the form of a turret of a complex shape mounted on the shoulder strap of the vehicle carrier. In the front part of the module case, there are means for mounting a large block of optical-electronic equipment. It is proposed to use to search for targets and missile guidance. In the stowed position, the optics is covered with movable covers.

On the sides of the tower are mounted two launchers, each of which is equipped with mounts for six transport-launch containers with missiles. Such plants have their own vertical drive. Preliminary guidance in the horizontal plane is made by turning the entire tower.

In the first reports of the 9P337 “Bagulnik” combat module, the compatibility of this product with the 9М337 anti-aircraft guided missiles was mentioned. Soon, experts and amateurs of technology were able to determine the prospects of such a product, taking into account the known information about it. It was known that this rocket was developed for the Sosna air defense missile system, but the launch of such a project was initially associated with the modernization program of the Tunguska rocket-gun complex.

According to the latest data, the Pine anti-aircraft complex uses missiles of a different type. To defeat targets, it is proposed to use 9М340 products, to a certain extent resembling previous 9М337. With similar dimensions and mass, the new Sosny / Bagulnik rockets use the same targeting principle. The flying missile is controlled by a laser beam sent by the optics unit of the carrier vehicle. Receivers are located in the tail of the rocket, which protects the control channel from electronic or optical suppression.

Using the 9М340 missiles, the Pine complex can hit targets at a maximum range of 10 km and altitudes up to 5 km. The maximum target speed is 900 km / h. At the same time, real indicators of range and altitude, as well as the configuration of the protected space depend on various factors, primarily on the type of target. Thus, low-speed targets can be effectively intercepted over the entire range of allowable ranges and heights.

According to known data, the optical-electronic systems of the Sosna air defense missile system are suitable for monitoring in any meteorological conditions and at any time of the day. Under favorable conditions, they are able to find an air target at a distance of 30 km - far beyond the affected area. In the case of airborne weapons and other complex small-sized targets, the detection range is reduced to 8-10 km. Found object can be taken for auto tracking and subsequent launch of the rocket. The applied guidance system requires accompanying the target right up to the moment of hitting the target.

An interesting feature of the Pine system is the ability to work on ground targets. With the help of control using a laser beam, a rocket can be aimed at a tank, another combat vehicle, or some kind of structure. The effectiveness of an anti-aircraft missile in such a role directly depends on the type of target and used warhead. This mode is not basic, but to a certain extent increases the potential of the anti-aircraft complex.

In the summer of 2013, the industry built and presented a prototype of the new Pine air defense system. The first demonstration of this vehicle took place during a military-scientific conference dedicated to the development of air defense of the ground forces. It was further reported that in 2014, an experienced technician successfully coped with preliminary tests. About a year later, a new phase of inspections began. A few months ago, the prototype "Pines" went to the state tests, which were planned to be completed no later than 2018 of the year.

Back at the beginning of 2016, the national press reported on the imminent adoption of the Sosna complex into service with the ground forces. According to the latest data, announced by the leadership of the military department a few weeks ago, a similar issue has already been resolved. The “Pine” system is either already entering the troops, or it will begin to be delivered in the very near future. Signed whether the adoption of the ZRK into service - has not yet been clarified.

The development of the air defense of the ground forces proceeds along several main routes. One of them provides for the use of exclusively optical-electronic systems in combination with laser means of controlling a rocket. The new equipment was created together with the “Bagulnik” firing module, and the combat vehicle as a whole was given the designation “Pine”. The use of different names at one time led to confusion and certain difficulties, but later the real state of affairs was established. Now, the armed forces will be able to use all the advantages inherent in the new “Bagulnik” and “Pine” projects.

To work on helicopters, I think this complex is good. But what about air-to-surface missiles launched far beyond the detection and destruction zone?

I think the TOR will handle it, but it is expensive and the Pine is a budget.

The shooting range of the Helfaers with the Apache and the firing range of this anti-aircraft missile system are almost the same, and it will be difficult to mean and fight with the Apaches, yet the main efforts will have to be directed at destroying the missiles ...

For me, it would be better if Shilka were equipped with this guidance station plus a missile module, like this

you don’t need to evaluate everything in a spherical vacuum - if the car is disguised, then what kind of hell will the Apache see it from a more or less decent distance - but he himself will be on a silver platter and he will know about the attack when the rocket will already fly into it. Well, if the car is in the middle of the field, it is wound up and well warmed up, then finding it is not a problem at a great distance.
nobody will shoot down missiles simply because this system will not get into them.
The whole charm of this system is its secrecy (optoelectronic detection and guidance system) and, accordingly, the price. The optical detection ranges are approximately the same for the vertiku and that of this machine - but you can’t disguise the vertik in the sky (unless you attack from the side of the sun)

Well, Duc, he should not unite all threats in one person, BUK or other systems will take such goals.

I do not understand, but WHAT about the article itself ?? What's the news then? ALL that is written by respected Cyril has been published many times, incl. and on THIS site itself !!! Too lazy to look for links - whoever wants to - can type "Pine" on the search engine IN - and get a LOT of material !!! By the way, the author’s assumptions that the developer can be named after the Nudelman Design Bureau .... Well, everything is simple - you just need to go to the KB site and download enough detailed information about this complex !!!!

About the new budget modernization of the old, new, technology. I hope the cycle will continue.
I personally liked about Pine and Dragoon, there is, in principle, something to think about and in the discussion on recommending for purchase for our military department, because representatives are browsing this site.

Yoksel-moxel! ...... and with a bow on the side! Or everything mixed up in the "Oblonsky's house" ... Earlier, it was alleged that the "integral" SAM - "Ledum"; and "Pine" - a "gadget"! T .k. it was assumed that “Ledum” would use anti-aircraft missiles of the Strela-M4 air defense system .... Tepericha, truncated the other way around! And again: the speed of 1200 km was indicated in the first mentions of Sosny R and it was even named hypersonic "... in the end, the" final "speed is 900 km! request

the shell of the radar system - that is, it is actively searching for targets - is longer range naturally. The arrow and this machine are optoelectronic complexes - they are invisible to the target.
The objective of this complex is the fight against aircraft - anti-aircraft attack aircraft - that is, the protection of armored vehicles. The task of the Shell is to provide air defense-missile defense - that is, the whole range of goals. Well, the main thing is the price, I think it is significantly different - both the machine itself and the missiles.

More attention should be paid to creating air defense systems capable of effectively combating the massive use by our opponents of Tomahawk-type cruise missiles or the like, while such already obsolete systems like Pine cannot do this.

knocking down an ax is not a problem - at least from a conventional MANPADS willow. The main problem is detection - and this can only be AWACS or interceptors of the MIG 31 type with a powerful airborne radar.
