Verkhovna Rada extended the law on the special status of Donbass
On Wednesday, this document was submitted to the Parliament by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. The deputies should have considered it yesterday, but the Rada postponed the discussion due to the fact that the opposition blocked the rostrum in the meeting room. Part of the parliamentarians considered that the document threatens the federalization of the country and demanded that conditions be written out in it to endow the regions of Donbass with a special status. After that, Poroshenko introduced to the parliament a revised document, taking into account the comments of the committee.
The law states that the special status for Donbass will come into force after the fulfillment of a number of conditions, including the withdrawal of “illegal formations” from the region.
According to the Minsk agreements, Kiev is committed to providing a special status to certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The relevant law was passed in the 2014 year, but it was never applied. Its action expired on October 18.
Kiev intended to endow the uncontrolled areas of Donbass with a special status only after local elections under Ukrainian laws and under the control of international observers. However, the elections did not take place, and the special status for the self-proclaimed DNR and LC remained on paper.
In the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, the amended draft law was criticized, calling the document “another profanation from Kiev,” the purpose of which is to create the appearance of the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
In Lugansk, they said that the only "illegal armed formations" in the Donbass are Ukrainian security forces, reports RIA News
