The portfolio of export orders of Russian weapons is estimated at 50 billion dollars
The volume of the export portfolio of Russian weapons for quite a long time is at a high, good level. Summing up the country's arms export for 2016 a year, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted during the meeting of the commission on military-technical cooperation (MTC) that Russia confidently ranks second in the world in terms of arms supplies, second only to the United States. Russian military equipment is in steady demand in the market and is already being delivered to 52 countries of the world. According to the results of 2016, the export of Russian weapons exceeded 15 billion dollars (against 14,5 billion in 2015 year). According to the president, the total amount of the order book remains at the level of 50 billion dollars, this was achieved, including through the signing of new contracts worth 2016 billion dollars in 9,5 year.
Of the contracts that were concluded in 2016, one could single out an agreement with the PRC for the supply aviation engines AL-31F and D-30KP2 for a total amount of more than $ 1,2 billion. In general, 2016 was not remembered for the signing of especially large contracts. Russia mainly focused on the implementation of previously signed agreements, many of which were successfully closed, while our partners are generally satisfied with the implementation of contracts - both in terms of the pace of their implementation and in terms of claims. At the same time, 2017 promises to be more successful in terms of concluding new contracts, the success of the Russian military in Syria plays an important role in this, where more than 600 different types of Russian weapons, especially aviation equipment, have already been tested in combat conditions.
According to Shugaev, the trend observed today will continue in the future. He stressed that the order book is a very important concept, because it speaks of the obligations of our suppliers. He was speaking at a press conference held after the closing of the forum "Army-2017» and was devoted to the results of his work. Dmitry Shugaev noted that in the total volume of deliveries of Russian weapons, the share of combat aviation is very large, accounting for about 50% of the entire portfolio, respectively, about 30% for vehicles intended for ground forces, about 20% for air defense systems and 6-7% on the naval forces.
Moreover, Russia hopes in the coming years to increase its share in the global military aviation market to 27%. This was the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation told the online publication "Lenta.ru". The main promising markets for Russia in this area, he called the countries of Asia, North Africa and Latin America. Today, India is among the largest customers of Russian military aviation equipment (the contract for the supply of MiG-29K fighters for fleetMiG-29 for the Air Force is being modernized, as well as participating in the assembly of the Su-30MKI), China (supply of the latest Su-35SK fighters), Algeria (supply of a batch of Su-30MKI (A) fighters under the new contract and Mi-28NE attack helicopters) , Egypt (acquired 46 MiG-29M fighter jets and about 50 reconnaissance and attack helicopters Ka-52 both in land and sea versions for Mistral helicopter carriers), Iraq (supply of Mi-28NE attack helicopters). In addition, domestic multi-purpose helicopters of the Mi-8/17 family are in great demand on the international market. Buys Russian military equipment and Kazakhstan. As part of the Army-2017 forum, this state signed a framework contract for the supply of 12 Su-30SM multi-role fighters. Russia plans to transfer new aircraft to the buyer within three years from the date of first delivery.
Today, Russia supplies abroad “the entire palette of fighters,” which are widely known on the international market. This modernized MiG-29 fighter and twin-seat multi-purpose Su-30 and the latest Su-35 and MiG-35, combat training aircraft Yak-130, combat helicopters Mi-28, Ka-52, Mi-35 and multi-purpose Mi-17. In terms of air defense technology, foreign customers are most interested in the S-400 Triumph system and the Buk, Tor, and Igla MANPADS, and Russian armored vehicles are in demand, for example, various versions of the main combat tank T-90, as well as electronic warfare, said Dmitry Shugaev.
It should be noted that the share of aviation technology in the total volume of Russian arms exports has remained consistently high over the past few years. According to Alexander Mikheev, the general director of Rosoboronexport, this figure is on average about 40% over the past 5 years. For the same 5 years, the average annual export volume of Russian-made military products exceeded 15 billions of dollars, Mikheyev said June 15 of the year 2017.
Today, the Russian defense industry is witnessing a growing demand for the Triumph C-400 air defense system, which is rightly considered the best in the world at a given time. According to some data, requests from 10 states interested in purchasing this complex are currently being processed. One of the most high-profile contracts of the last time was the contract for the supply of C-400 air defense systems to Turkey. According to the Russian President Assistant for Military-Technical Cooperation, Vladimir Kozhin, the contract has been signed with Turkey and ready to run. He particularly noted the fact that the C-400 complex is one of the most complex systems, which consists of a huge set of technical means, therefore there are a large number of nuances in the supply of the complex. He also guaranteed that all decisions made under the contract with Turkey are in line with Russia's strategic interests.
According to Kozhin, there is a real line on the C-400 systems today. The countries of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, as well as some of our allies, the CSTO members, have a huge number of applications for this air defense system. It should be understood that the "Triumph" - this is a very expensive military equipment, and therefore not all countries can afford to buy it. Currently available contracts for this system fully loaded industrial enterprises that are engaged in its production.
Today, Russian government committees work in parallel with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon and other countries. So in Iran, Russian experts are engaged in maintenance of equipment designed for the needs of defense, which was sold in the country before. It is assumed that between Russia and Iran in the future can be achieved agreement on deliveries of C-400 «Triumph" system. At the same time, the Russian military-industrial complex seeks to regulate after-sales service of sold military equipment and overcome barriers to such service, opening new maintenance centers abroad. For example, such helicopter maintenance organizations have already appeared in Peru and in Brazil, which only indicates that our country is interested in maintaining and strengthening its position in the field of international military-technical cooperation.
Recently, the development of the navy has slowed down due to its labor-intensive and expensive production, however, experts predict an increase in demand for domestic submarines, corvettes and other warships in the future. So Vladimir Kozhin in an interview with TASS noted that Russia's revenues from the sale of naval technology to the 2025 year could grow to 40 billions of dollars. According to him, at present, negotiations are held in this area with Russia's traditional partners: China, India, Indonesia, Thailand and a number of other African states. Today the Russian Federation offers a full range of warships and weapons intended for the protection of state borders, the fight against piracy and poaching. Foreign customers are particularly keenly interested in the Russian Caliber missile system, Kozhin stresses. Foreign experts are closely watching the use of weapons against various terrorist targets in Syria, which promotes a rapid increase in orders for it.
Also, more than fifty applications for the sale of Russian-made unmanned systems are currently being considered. Of course, in this market Russia is still seriously ahead of the United States and Israel, and in the Russian portfolio of orders Drones occupy no more than 2-3 percent. But new developments are being prepared for serial production, plus Moscow and Jerusalem are negotiating the joint creation of new unmanned aerial vehicles. Therefore, in the future, the share of robotic equipment in Russian arms exports will have to increase.
