Over 60 percent of chemical weapons destroyed in RF
According to RIA "News”, On 1 March, 2012 in the Russian Federation over 24000 tons of toxic substances were destroyed, which is 60,4% of chemical weapons stocks. This information appeared on the website of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.
The site is quoted as Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce G. Kalamanov. The deputy minister indicates that the goal was set to reach one hundred percent disposal of chemical weapons by 2015, and reports that the destruction process has now been completed by two enterprises.

According to the press service of the plenipotentiary, M. Babich reaffirmed the commitment of the Russian Federation to the course of the destruction of all chemical weapons in the country in the shortest possible time.
According to the report, Mikhail Babich called on all states that are still outside the legal field of the Convention to join it without delay, and the participating states to fully implement the provisions of this important treaty. Within the framework of the OPCW, all measures are currently being taken to attract new states parties to the Convention.
According to M. Babich, it is very important that the OPCW is not politicized, but exclusively a professional organization that ensures the implementation of the Convention by all parties.
The plenipotentiary added that highly qualified Russian specialists should form the backbone of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons divisions related to the verification of chemical objects.
According to the press service, the program for the destruction of stockpiles of chemical weapons in the Russian Federation in 2011 was performed at 99,98%. It should be noted that the attraction of extra-budgetary funds amounted to more than 154% of the planned.
Now six chemical weapons destruction facilities have been commissioned and are operating in the Russian Federation. The Kambarka and Gorny facilities have already completed the destruction of chemical weapons and are now continuing to process reaction masses and industrial waste. At the facilities “Maradykovsky”, “Leonidovka”, “Shchuchye” and “Pochep”, chemical warfare agents in ammunition are destroyed aviation and artillery shells.
Recall that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was established fourteen years ago with the aim of eliminating chemical weapons throughout the world. The main task of the OPCW is to verify the destruction of all chemical weapons and to take measures to ensure the cessation of their production.
The organization in 2012 includes representatives from 188 countries. At annual conferences, participants discuss issues related to the implementation of an international agreement on the prohibition of chemical weapons, including progress in the destruction of the possessor states, security issues, assistance to countries and protection - when the threat of the use of chemical weapons appears.
The United States initially announced the availability of 27000 tons of chemical weapons, the Russian Federation - 40000 tons.
According to earlier agreements, all chemical weapons throughout the world were supposed to be destroyed by 2012, but due to the fact that the Russian Federation and the United States did not have time to destroy all weapons, the deadlines were extended to the end of 2015.
