Philippines will begin to purchase Russian weapons

41
Philippine Foreign Minister Alan Peter Cayetano in an interview RIA News reported that official Manila sent to Moscow a request to buy Russian weapons. It is noted that at present, procedures are being carried out to develop schemes for financing weapons supplies from the Russian Federation. The issue of the payment scheme is trying to resolve through the Philippine Ministry of Finance.

According to some information, at the first stage we are talking about the acquisition by the Philippines of Russian small arms for the needs of the army and other security forces.

It was noted that coordination of the future visit of the head of the Russian defense ministry Sergei Shoigu to Manila continues. It is planned that this autumn between Russia and the Philippines a package of documents will be signed, among which is an agreement on military-technical cooperation between the two countries.

Recall that relations between Moscow and Manila became more trusting after the new President Rodrigo Duterte came to power in the Philippines.

Philippines will begin to purchase Russian weapons

At the same time, Duterte significantly limited the contacts of the Philippine authorities with the American "partners". Not so long ago, the head of the Philippines refused to impose American "assistance" in an operation against ISIS terrorists (* prohibited in Russia) in the city of Maravi on the island of Mindanao.

The main thing is not to be, as usual. You give us all a loan for 100 years, and then we will write off debts. Such "cooperation" does not make me very happy. For some reason I’m sure that in the end it will be so. Russian taxpayers will pay for everything, and the Philippines will get everything just like that.

I think that here is not only and not so much help with armaments, as much as big politics entered the struggle. Here is an excerpt about the meaning of the Philippines:
For the United States, the Philippines is strategically important for Pacific control. From 1898 to 1946, the islands were a colony of the United States. After independence, the US military bases were located in the Philippines. Only in 1991 they were withdrawn from the territory of the state. However, already in 1998, an agreement was signed on the stay of foreign troops, and in 2014 an agreement on expanded defense cooperation. De jure, the United States cannot build permanent naval bases in the Philippines. However, according to the aforementioned agreements, they can use the Philippine bases and stay on the islands for any length of time. Moreover, in the case of crimes of any severity in the Philippines, the Americans are outside the jurisdiction of the Philippine justice.
In the conflict with China, the United States hoped to use the Philippines as a base for confronting this country, especially since China and the Philippines are at war on the issue of delimiting the waters of the South China Sea.

In the end, Duterte is now ready to move towards rapprochement with China, if only against the fact that his country was used as a bargaining chip in the US-China bodal, because if China hits the Americans, there will be little left of the Philippines. Big uncles will then sit down and agree, but the Philippines will only remain in history textbooks, and even then not for long.
Duterte is a sharp and belligerent politician, the closest way to which is to help in confronting the United States. Well, who however Russia with its weapons can help in this? China is not so close, everything is just unfolding there. But the visit of Shoigu in this case is in color.
