The publication Futurism, citing research results published by scientists from the University of Houston, reports the creation of "artificial skin for robots". The material states that, although the innovative development has not yet passed all the stages of testing, it is already clear that it enables robotic technology to “feel” what it touches.
The leader of the research team is a specialist named Kunjiang Yu. It is explained that “artificial leather for robots” is based on semiconductor materials and the synthesis of organic and inorganic substances. The main compound used in the American development is polydimethylsiloxane (a substance based on silicon). In addition, an innovative material based on nanofibers, passed through a special hardening procedure for passing current with minimal resistance, was used.
Researchers say that the new development will allow to create medical equipment that can work more efficiently - according to new principles. For example, the option of creating special surgical gloves as well as medical implants with the ability to track all their basic parameters is being considered. And this is not the only area where new development can be applied with high efficiency.
