Media: In the United States crashed Russian fighter
As representatives of the Nellis base stated, 5 of September, approximately in 160 km to the north-west of it, a plane of the USAF crashed during the exercise, its model was not specified. Later American edition Aviation Week published a material in which it was stated that Schultz could manage a foreign-made aircraft during maneuvers. The pilot allegedly served in the unit specializing in the use of production fighters of the USSR and the Russian Federation, including the Su-27 and MiG-29, in order to assess their combat qualities.
The publication noted that the Su-27 was recently spotted not far from the place where the crash occurred, but a representative of the US Air Force unit stationed at Nellis airbase answered by telephone: "No, we don’t have such information." He stated that we are talking about data regarding the application aviationwhich are "classified and cannot be disclosed."
At the same time, an American magazine Popular Mechanics, reports that the plane that crashed a few days ago in the state of Nevada may be a Soviet-made Su-27 fighter.
Since the times of the Cold War, the Nellis airbase has housed a research center dedicated to studying weapons "probable enemy" - first of all the USSR. According to the magazine, Schulz was the commander of a squadron of the US Air Force unit engaged in testing and evaluating foreign aircraft. Among others, the squadron is armed with Su-27 fighters, received by the United States through third countries. According to the publication, the likely reason that the authorities did not disclose the type of crashed aircraft, may be that Schultz piloted a foreign aircraft.
