The Lithuanian government approved a plan to block electricity imports from the Belarusian NPP under construction.
In the government’s decree, the energy from the Belarusian NPP is called “unsafe”, and the station itself represents “a threat to national security to the Lithuanian environment and society,” reports Delphi.
The plan provides for a ban on the supply of electricity from Belarus to Lithuania - in addition to the volume “necessary to ensure the reliability of the energy system” of the Baltic country.
It also declares its intention to synchronize the Lithuanian electricity system and the network of continental Europe before 2025.
From this year, there should be no opportunity for electric power from third countries to enter our network or so that it can pass to the extent that may be necessary if the unavoidable technical reasons for desynchronization from the system of CIS countries are clarified
- informs edition.
Earlier, the Lithuanian parliament recognized the Belarusian NPP as a threat to the country, and President Dalia Grybauskaite declared the station a “Russian geopolitical project.”
