The environmental unit of the Eastern District completed cleaning the Big Shantar Island in the Khabarovsk Territory from debris, and continues to work on Wrangel Island, reports Interfax-AVN message press service BBO.





During the event, on the island of Bolshaya Shantar, military personnel stored old metal barrels at the point of loading, dismantled several old buildings. Work on cleaning the territory of the island has been going on since August of this year,
says release.

Several tons of garbage are ready to be sent to the “mainland”.

As for the coastal territory of Rogers Bay on Wrangel Island, then military environmentalists have already “pressed 330 tons of metal barrels and loaded them with an 34 container”.

Earlier, on the territory of Bolshoy Shantar Island, together with employees of the Shantarsky Reserve, about 2-th thousand metal barrels and 5 units of old equipment were discovered.

The Shantar archipelago includes 15 islands. It is reported that "in 1999, the Shantar Islands with a water area are included in the state reserve of the same name, in 2013, the Shantar Islands National Park was formed with a total area of ​​more than 515 thousand hectares, including the adjacent Sea of ​​Okhotsk Sea area over 274 thousand hectares."
