The unpredictable teachings “West-2017” are intended to psychologically intimidate the West, the NATO leadership must finally take decisive actions, Polish General Roman Pole told in an interview to Wprost.pl portal. Interview leads
InoTV.
The problem with the West-2017 teachings is that their scenarios are aggressive. They provide for the invasion of the territory of NATO countries and even the use of nuclear
weapons,
said Polko.
According to him, the fact of the exercises should not be afraid, because they are standard and have been held for several years.
Rather, it should be feared that the command of the Russian armed forces is learning the scenario of conducting a war with the use of nuclear weapons. It stays in memory and shapes skills. We will not be afraid only when we show such solidarity as we saw at the NATO summit in Poland. However, it was a short-term effect, and then everything fell apart,
noted the general.
He also stated that the alliance continues to hold only on the United States.
Of course, there is some progress in the European part, but Putin manages to play on the difference of interests between countries, mainly in the economic field. In Poland, we have a heavy brigade, but it is American. But it’s difficult, with Russia and Belarus as neighbors on the one hand, and Germany on the other, to count on the United States only on the issue of defense. We, as the country most concerned, must do more to ensure that Europe is integrated. And we do everything just the opposite. It is difficult to call the exit from the eurocorpus a positive step. If it does not function as it should, then Poland should make efforts to ensure that these structures operate and, being in the center, ensure that the European armed forces do not oppose the United States, but are part of it. For this in his speeches loudly fighting for Donald Trump,
said Polko.
Returning to the question of the teachings, he noted:
Putin plays purposefully and creates an atmosphere of tension around these exercises. Russia could theoretically do it, but in economic terms it would be a big enterprise, because such exercises are expensive. Everything depends on the level of involvement of the troops and the scope of the exercises. If so many soldiers (100 thousand) really appear, then Belarusians should be the most afraid, not NATO. These concerns mainly concern whether Russia will come out after the exercises from their territory or may remain.
The Kremlin claims that Russia does not threaten anyone, but this is only an element of the game on the part of Moscow. Russia uses its propaganda, which is not very different from the era of the Warsaw Pact, “where is the conclusion
tanks from the GDR was explained as a peaceful gesture, but in reality a rotation was carried out to introduce a new generation of better armed vehicles. ”
Also, brazenly, Putin lied in the case of the annexation of the Crimea, when there were "green men", or on the issue of Donbass, where humanitarian aid was supposed to go. With the naked eye it can be seen that on the information warfare front, Putin dictates the conditions and takes the initiative. Despite the fact that NATO declared cyberspace as the territory for conducting military operations, the integrated actions of the alliance are not visible. When Putin settles in Belarus, we want to close the TV channel Belsat, instead of investing this area of our influence and fighting in the field of information,
said Polko.
Instead of a strange lowing, which only make Putin laugh, joint actions are needed. First, the information struggle. I would expect not only a refutation from the West, but also an information offensive from the other side. Secondly, the answer to the exercises is always the second side. Putin may threaten many, but economically he will not stand the confrontation, because Russia is terribly weakened by financial sanctions. Putin has little to offer his citizens. I think the most important thing is NATO cohesion. But it should not be so that every now and then any politician from the alliance would bend over. We should try to cooperate with the help of wise diplomacy, and not on the basis of an insult to everyone and everything,
summed up General Polko.
