The British "christened" a new aircraft carrier

41
An official ceremony was held at the Babcock Marine shipyard in Rosite (Scotland) for the official baptism of the aircraft carrier under construction R 09 Prince of Wales, the second ship of the type Queen Elizabeth.

The construction of HMS Prince of Wales was launched in 2011, and on September 8 a solemn ceremony was named after the name of an aircraft carrier. The ceremony was attended by the current Prince of Wales, Charles, and his wife, Duchess of Cornish, Camilla, acted as the “godmother” of the ship, smashing a bottle of whiskey (in deference to the Scottish shipbuilders) on the body of the aircraft carrier.

The British "christened" a new aircraft carrier

HMS Prince of Wales - the second ship of the series of the two newest British aircraft carriers. The ship is planned to be completed this year, and its bringing to full combat readiness is planned for 2020 year. The Prince wing will consist of F-35B Lightning II fighter-bomber aircraft and Merlin helicopters (up to 40 vehicles with the possibility of expanding the wing to 70 units). In addition, the aircraft carrier will be able to carry shock and heavy military transport helicopters, as well as the convertible plane V-22 Osprey. The base wing will consist of 12 F-35B, the crew - less than 700 people (plus 300 people from the composition of the wing), with full combat readiness of the ship can accommodate up to 1600 people.

British aircraft carriers are smaller than American "brothers"; they do not have a nuclear reactor, a catapult, and are almost three times cheaper than ships of the Gerald R. Ford type. The length of Queen Elizabeth ships is 280 m, the width is 73 m, the total displacement exceeds 70 000 t. Ships can reach speeds up to 25 knots (46 km / h), and autonomy is 10 000 miles or almost 300 days of sailing, transmits "Warspot".

Who in the know tell me how autonomy of 300 days is achieved without a nuclear reactor? Is he an aircraft carrier or a bulk tanker?
It fortifies the Americans how many orders are shining in the F-35, the Odysseys, and probably a lot more.

There is prepared a place for a catapult.
In the meantime, the F-35B, which does not need a springboard, can take off from there.
And the springboard for F-35C, which will begin to arrive only next year,

Yes, the fact of the matter is that it is constantly spinning inside, and there is not enough steam at the catapult, even with the reactor, not to mention fuel oil, il, God forgive me, coal. The catapult is only at the start, and then is silent

".... the bed (trough) of the steam catapult with two trunks of power cylinders located in it is subjected to heating to 180-200 ° C before the start of flights using a standard heating system

The covers located above the gutter are equipped with reliable thermal insulation, which does not save, however, completely from heat leakage - the temperature on the outer surface of the covers reaches 50 ° C. When the AUG approaches the combat zone, there is an emergency heating mode by supplying reduced pressure steam to the power cylinders for 8 hours . Readiness information on elongation of the catapult
each of the trunks of the power cylinders is 110-115 mm with a track length of 90 m.

The regular heating of the gutter is carried out within 24 hours using the steam warmers of the heating system .... "

"... the system for heating the gutter is standard, it is not a whim of the TsNIISM team in an attempt to expand the functionality of the catapult in winter and, especially, in the Arctic.

Regardless of the ambient temperature, such heating is a prerequisite for the normal operation of a steam engine. Without such warming up, it is difficult to imagine the thermal cycling of power cylinders during starts - from 20 to 240 ° C with an interval of 8 to 60 seconds .... "

This is not about compensation for deformations of the catapult cylinders, but about general issues of navigation in the northern latitudes and the operation of these devices at low temperatures.

Air finishers are much easier to install than a catapult.
Initially, two Britons were developed under the F-35S.
But: 1) the tests of the F-35S were slowed down due to problems with the hook
        2) the military budget was sharply reduced in England.
And we went to the "budget" version with the F-35B, which is nothing
It is necessary for take-off / landing except for a piece of a flat deck.

          "budget" version with the F-35B

          How is it budget?
          F-35A: $ 83,4 million
          F-35B: $ 108,1 million
          F-35C: $ 93,3 million
Well, it is worth recalling that the F-35B is a short take-off aircraft.
So, that "piece" is not enough.

Actually, the Britons planned to sell this board to someone. The budget of London can pull only one ship of this class. Profitability of construction for the shipyard appears only if there will be at least two sides to pay off the development of the project. But who did not come up with a scam with a medical sign and the need to purchase for him the F-35 air wing. Moreover, the wing itself and its maintenance are more expensive than this mini-aircraft carrier.

The author is bad with arithmetic, if 10000 miles (18520 km) divided by these 15 nodes we get rounded 28 days.
Given the obviously weak GEM of -2X53000l.s, it is quite possible that he will pass these 10000 miles on such a move.
