Berlin refused to pay Poland additional reparations

Germany does not intend to pay Poland additional war reparations, said German government spokesman Steffen Seibert.
According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, during the briefing, Seibert noted that Germany incurred responsibility for the “unthinkable crimes” of the Second World War and paid substantial reparations, including Poland. He recalled that in 1953, Warsaw had decided to refuse further reparation payments from Berlin.
From the point of view of the federal government, there is no basis and legal effectiveness in questioning the waiver of reparations in the 1953 year.
- said the representative of the Cabinet.
Political and military expert of the People's Diplomacy Foundation Sergei Prostakov commented on the words of the Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo about the right to request reparations from Germany for the damage caused to the country during the Second World War.
The reasons for the Warsaw’s demarche are internal politics, in which the ruling party of Jaroslav Kaczynski (“Law and Justice”) seeks to use historical memory for their own purposes, and a crisis of confidence in the EU. Warsaw has long focused not on Brussels and Berlin, but on Washington, being the most faithful American ally in Europe
