As reported by Sputnik agency, UAR government forces laid siege to the largest stronghold of the Islamic State terrorist group (IG *) in the Akerbat settlement in the province of Hama.

Units of the Syrian army are fighting with terrorists at a distance of three kilometers from Akerbat. The city itself is under fire control. During the clashes, several Syrian soldiers died as a result of a car bomb exploded with a suicide bomber at the wheel on the highway between Akerbat and Djuruh.

Syrian troops and volunteer units with the active support of the air forces have liberated the strategically important city of Akerbat in the east of Hama province.

“The operation to destroy a large group of ISIS * in the eastern part of the Hama province near the strategically important Akerbat settlement was carried out with the active support of the air forces,” RIA Novosti reports from the Russian military.

The Ministry of Defense noted that this last victory eliminated the last major hotbed of terrorist resistance in central Syria.

“At present, the units of the Syrian army are finishing off the remains of the IG * terrorist groups in the Akerbat boiler,” the Ministry of Defense said.

Recall, earlier on Saturday, the Ministry of Defense reported that the VKS destroyed 30 pieces of terrorist equipment in Syria in two days.
