Two newest large diesel submarines of the Black Sea fleet (Black Sea Fleet) Kolpino and Veliky Novgorod, making the inter-naval transition from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea Fleet, entered the Mediterranean Sea, said Captain 1st Rank Vyacheslav Trukhachev, the head of the information support department of the Black Sea Fleet.
The submarines Kolpino and Veliky Novgorod arrived in the Mediterranean. Submarines follow on the surface, accompanied by the Baltic Fleet rescue tug SB-921. It is planned that the submarines will be part of the permanent compound of the Navy in the Mediterranean

The Kolpino and Veliky Novgorod submarines are the fifth and sixth in a series of six 636.3 submarines built at the Admiralty Shipyards for the Black Sea Fleet. A feature of the submarines of this project is that they are equipped with the Caliber PL submarine missile armament complex, as well as with updated electronic equipment.
Six submarines of the 636.3 project were built for the Black Sea Fleet at the Admiralty Shipyards (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). Two of them - “Rostov-on-Don” and Krasnodar ”- when performing inter-fleet crossings for a long time were part of a permanent operational connection of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea, from the water area of which Caliber-Submarines fired missiles at targets of the Islamic State "(a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) in Syria, reports "Interfax"
